In the above situation, a Supes nomination would be available. the "reasons unknown" would be key to the "why."

Yes, some do decline immediately and others are offered these openings. However, navy2010 is correct. Based on historical data, they can anticipate within a few percentage points, the acceptance rate and will send out offers commensurate with this projection. Commencing three or so years ago, Admissions also established a waiting list. This allows them to ‘fine tune’ class size even further and is also the source of many of...

Yes, you're right about splitting hairs. Perhaps you should ask the USNA when you get in. Hypothetical "what if" quandaries are unending, unimportant, and a total waste or yours or others who might take that bait to respond, time. Stick to what is.

Loa and no nominations

Everything that I have read on this forum.....is that the admissions process and the nomination process are totally mutually exclusive processes. The admissions process does not influence the nomination process......so....... If the admissions process "liked" a candidate and the nomination process "did not like" a candidate.....I can logically see how a LOA can get generated from the admissions process and...

If you received a principle nomination, then you are probably scholastically qualified. A MOC is not going to give a principle nomination to someone who wasn't.

The general requirements to go to med school are no more rigorous than those for VGEP. I guess everyone who desires graduate education should be put under the same generalizations that Mombee stated.

Quote: “Not for self, but country” is the motto of the Naval Academy. Will a medical school candidate, knowing that he has to have an ‘A’ on the next day’s Chemistry quiz be as likely to help his roommate struggling with Calculus in order to remain sat? I think your suggestion that, somehow, a midshipman striving to get into the Medical Corps is a selfish and unpatriotic person is just wrong...

Your best bet with any DODMERB or medical qualification question is to contact Larry Mullen, Deputy Director of DODMERB over at United States of America Service Academy Forums - he usually will give you an answer within 24 hours. Obviously, a candidate with a broken finger is not 3 q'd, but once he is healed and qualified again (or waivered) he will once again be 3 q'd and with his principal nomination, he will receive an appointment.

So Luigi: Once his medical has the remedial removed, he should be good to go, with the appointment? It's just a broken finger but we felt we were legally obliged to report it to DODMERB. I guess my concern was that they would move to the first alternate on the list if he wasn't 3 Q'd at the time that the principal nomination comes into their office.

Our congressman (Frelinghuysen - 11th District) called my son at school - they pulled him out of class and made a big deal out of it. Two days later we received two letters from the congressman - one saying he received a nomination, the other saying he received the appointment. A week later we received the Appointment from the Academy. My son has a friend who is also applying - and he too received a letter (but no phone call) that he received...

In a nutshell: A MOC can submit ten names for each opening. He can submit the list by one of three methods; a principal nomination with ranked alternates, a principal nomination with competitive alternates, or an entire competitive list. 'Competitive' means he leaves it up to the Academy to decide, based on competitive rankings. 'Principal' means that should that candidate be triple ...

It's USNA's conspiracy to keep excellent, and as yet unappointed candidates working in school, keeping in good shape, and learning the USN way of "hurry up and wait." Patience and consider how much more you'll cherish that blue folder's arrival when it might be in your mailbox. Merry Christmas! And here's to your very happy New Year!

Ask your BGO to help. My Daughter had a LOA no NASS and no CVW invite. We just asked her BGO if she could go and he arranged it. As far as I know they are not that selective. You might get one if you just ask.

Your going to have a B in aptitude since that is solely based on your overall ranking. I believe the top 30% receive As next 40% or so Bs, ,and mostly everyone else gets a C. Overall nice work in your first semester with your 4.0.

My son submitted his app in May of 2008....didn't get the interview nailed down until September (due to a change in recruiters) and didn't hear another word until late January of 2009. He has just started college at his first choice school and is loving it...but the level of communications is no better now! Pack your patience ~ there is a reason that the term SNAFU originated with the military!

Theoretically, no but in reality, perhaps. All the SecNav nomination does is provide command endorsement. I think, by instruction, they are supposed to provide the endorsement partially based on academic potential but it is mostly an evaluation of your officer potential. The Academy portion of the application is used to determine your academic capabilities. With that said, a command ...
