He must have behaved like a total A-hole! When it was clear to me that DD would miss her JetBlue flight, I called the airline trying to switch her to a later flight. The very nice JetBlue agent I politely talked to told me that in order to avoid the $100 penalty, DD had to physically show up at the ticketing counter, and she'd be put on the later flight at no charge if there were any seats left on that flight! DD was very apologetic and...

I would love to make just a breast but I have turkey leg lovers. I really don't like the carving part...I have chosen recently to do this before we sit down...so stressful to wrestle with getting the legs off in front of a crowd. But then the turkey gets a bit cold and I don't have any room in my oven! Any good carving tips out there? I have a really good knife...very sharp...but I still hate dealing with those legs! I think...

I would never consider changing from turkey for Thanksgiving. We all love it. As for Peking Duck, I was fortunate to travel to Hong Kong and Beijing a few years ago where I ate Peking Duck for the first time. It was so wonderful that I have never eaten it since as I don't think it would be nearly as good here.

I follow the Garland method up to step 3. My 85 year old MIL makes the pies. Instead of shopping, we went to see a movie. It was Red Cliff by John Woo, based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I had my eyes covered for half the movie. Too many battle scenes. I should have stayed home. When I got home, I looked up the Romance of the Three Kingdoms on wikipedia and found out that one of the sources quoted was by Karl Eikenberry, currently the...

I'll say the pledge loudly and enthusiastically - but not the "under God" part. It bugs me that it was shoehorned in there, and I won't say it on principle.

Reporting in - TJ's brined turkey was a hit. I did it in an electric roasting pan and it looked kind of pasty at the end but my husband carved it in the kitchen and it was moist and delicious. I had another one that was baked in the oven and it looked beautiful, but was a little dry. SIL was a huge help in the kitchen and she talked me into doing a "no-fail two hour turkey" Safeway 2 Hour Turkey Recipe - Food Reference...

You can lend it at kiva.org
"Kiva's mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty.
Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend to unique entrepreneurs around the globe."
And when it is repaid, you can donate it to another worthy cause.

I'll bring cranberry relish, green bean casserole and a whole pumpkin pie. I keep saying I want to lose weight but I guess the refrigerator is going on a diet first.

I did shift work for several years, and my advice is not to, if you have a halfway decent alternative. Since your body-clock is already messed up, my advice goes double.
There has been some research on health and shift work. This one will get you started. Is there an association between shift work and having a metabolic syndrome? Results from a population based study of 27?485 people

I was there in the 80s, but at that time a hike in El Yunque was offered that started at the top and ended at the bottom by a waterfall/small swimming area. It was great, but the water was very cold, and this was summer. In San Juan we stayed at the Caribe Hilton. Very nice. In general Puerto Rico is not too safe after dark. For us a must do was the tour of the Bacardi factory.

I'm thinking of doing something different for Christmas. It is the 1st year I have done the Thanksgiving meal and I really don't want to do the same thing again for Christmas even though that is what my traditional Christmas dinner has been for over half a century.
I am thinking of doing a standing Rib roast.

I bet that the main problem with your parents being irritable and mad at you is that the dog was not on their guest list for the holidays.
As a dog owner, when you visit someone, do you ask them whether it is OK to bring your dog along? Responsible dog owners don't give ultimatums ("either it's me and the pup or I'm not coming !) but instead assume that the answer is "no" and make appropriate...

I've flown several times in the last couple of months and have also experienced the mad scramble for overhead bin space. While I haven't experienced the refusal of luggage, I was on a flight with empty seats where the flight attendant announced that someone needed to volunteer to get off the plane because the plane was over-weight.... Of course, everyone's reaction was confusion since the plane ...

I wouldn't list the Wharton degree when applying for these minimum wage jobs. The hiring people will know it's only a temporary job for you.

I do believe not dressing old. I don't mean to offend people, but I won't step into Chico, or any place that sells elastic pants (especially jeans). I'll buy jeans with stretchy material, but not elastic waist.

We had some friend who did this when their youngest graduated from high school. And yes, they sold off almost everything, had a big party to say goodbye to everyone from the last 25 years and decamped to the shoreline.
They are very happy, my husband loves their community (we're thinking of a different one on the shore tho), but I don't think it's as remote.
A suggestion: can you get a ...

I think if you can save the tooth, that is preferable. Don't shy away from a root canal because you have heard others had problems. It is very individual. There can be problems with extraction too - e.g. dry socket
A root canal and crown is more expensive than extraction - unless you will get an implant.
IMO - suck it up and get the root canal.

I always make a large sweet potato casserole two weeks early and freeze it. The recipe has butter/brown sugar/marshmallows/orange juice in it. If it appeals to you, let me know and I will post the recipe.
