picking an "obscure" major in any college wont give you a leg up in the admissions process

It definitely could. I have heard anecdotally that if anyone applies to Arch. primary and ANY OTHER COLLEGE secondary that they will be rejected automatically.

It's more than possible, you just have to plan it right. I'm going abroad for a semester junior year, and I cannot take any med school prereqs outside of the US and Canada for Texas med schools, so I'm basically putting all my prereqs in this year and next year, or the semester junior year I'm at Cornell.

Sending Updates for ED?
Published (2009-11-12 21:51:00)
I know that some people send updates if they applied ED and was deferred, but is it okay to send updates in time for the ED decision? If so, what would be the best way to send it (e.g., email, mail, etc.)?

Hi
I'm an Asian American applying ED for CoE from Germany
Does applying for financial aid hurt your chances of getting in?
I heard that it does indeed have an impact if your an international applicant
but for domestic applicants??? Does it make a difference??
Thanks in advance

if you want to be an Ibanker, you could have a few screws loose, if you want to work in hospitality, then you have come to the right place, and you will have a blast here.

It's not like physics and bioengineering are unrelated.
If you were great at physics and wanted to do art history, I'd say maybe that'd raise a red flag.
All math/science is seen as interchangeable.

cornell is never need blind for internationals (those who are not US citizens or Permanent Residents), no matter what they say, their budgets toward internationals are "very limited". This bothers me too

Not surprised at all (unless I get accepted), and then hit submit to every other RD school on common app that I will be applying to.

You don't have the stats/grades/or ec's, but you have alumni connection. 50/50 in.

Application sent. Not doing too well.
Since I've hit submit on the common app, every time it crosses my mind, I further realize how unrealistic my chances are. lol

Your score before was sufficient. 710 in CR? 800 in math? They don't even look at writing. Those were solid scores already.

There was a lot of discussion about this when score choice first came out, and it was very clearly stated by many schools that they would not be participating in score choice. My daughter is now a senior, and knew of Cornell's score choice policy before she took the SAT as a junior.

Don't sweat the test scores. A 29/30 is enough to get you into the pool of seriously considered applicants. SAT/ACT scores are only useful in gauging whether a person is mentally retarded or not. Especially in the top percentile rankings where scores are differentiated by just one or two missed questions. A 29/30, though on the lower end of the spectrum, still is in Cornell's range.

No, Arts and Sciences and COE are the only two schools in Cornell where you don't apply to a specific major and instead note which is your probable major.
All of the other colleges you are applying to a specific major/department.

It's October and you're already predicting an AP grade?? Yes, go get the AP guide. School profiles generally list AP performance for the whole class, but why not try to be better??
