I'll give you my perspective. I don't even understand it. (admittedly, there aren't that many Asians in my school) And it sounds racist. What if one of the Adcoms is a conservative Asian. Overall, i don't think it is a good idea.

To be honest, I think we should be flexible. It all depends on which college you're applying. Some like flattering things, some don't. Some prefer seeing your true self, real passion, while others don't even bother reading essays. Even if it's America or somewhere else, things are the same. But there is one thing for sure (in my opinion): pretending to be somebody to get into the school ...

They mean: Who are you? What is unique about you? What distinguishes you from the others? That's one way to approach. And there are still many other ways that you can think of. That question is like "Oh, show me that we cannot kick you out throughout 4 years of college".

Rest easy -- your approach is perfectly acceptable. With some 20,000 other applicants, there is guaranteed to be an extreme diversity among the types of essays submitted, and yours sounds far from an anomaly. Best wishes!

don't post your essays on here. someone could easily steal it you should ask people to read it personal message the essay to them. you should try to edit this post and take the essay off

Forget the books. If you can crank out a piece with decent grammar and mechanics, it's all about voice. Do whatever it takes to strip away your self-consciousness when writing and just write for yourself. My essay--the one which I ended up using for all of my applications-- was written on 2 hours of sleep and hung over like there's no tomorrow. I'm not advocating getting plastered...
