Marvel Masterworks Marathon Part...

Man, I'm really starting to burn out from going through these so fast. I hear ya. You and I both made it a Marvel Masterworks Sprint. Be strong. JIM 110: Every Hand Against Him...It's entertaining how Loki mundanely bails Hyde and Cobra out of jail rather than transporting them out or something equally magical. Hmmm, yeah. At least Loki goes so far as to beef up the admittedly dismal powers of Hyde and Cobra….though doubling...

Marathon 40: Man, I'm really starting to burn out from going through these so fast. But then I try to imagine how the heck Kirby drew this many pages this fast, when I'm having trouble reading them this quickly. Good thing I'm close to catching up. JIM 110: Every Hand Against Him. Hyde + Cobra + Loki = Fun! How exactly did Loki escape to earth again? Stan doesn't even bother to tell us. It's entertaining how Loki...

The Sub-Mariner
Published (2009-12-11 08:14:37)
Was there any other Golden Age evil protagonist??? (At least in the early 40's.) Here's the only one I can think of, Baslyn from DC's "Blood Pearls" (New Comics/New Adventure Comics #11-13)

Tip: Keep an eye out for the recurring character Folma. His existance tends to go rather ignored, since it's hard to keep all the names that pop up in all these comics straight.

"I've got a few things to say to you!" - Johnny Storm OK, did anyone not know who the "mystery villian" really was? ...I didn't think so. I think this was the first FF story since FF 23 to feature team members questioning Reed's role as leader. Pretty funny to see straight-laced Richards cook up a costume with a full-face mask (sporting a huge question mark motif) and then ...

Today was a snow day, so how better to spend it (after shoveling) than another installment of the Marathon? JIM 109: The Menace of Magneto. The statuary in the Hall of Heroes looks interesting....the artist is unnamed, so is it Alicia Masters? I can't remember if she has been disclosed to be a sculptor yet. I also note with amusement that the Aurora plastic model of Thor looks VERY much like ...

Return of Blob! And Magneto! And the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants! It's like Stan and Jack were so busy coming up with great new concepts in other places that here in the X-Men they were content to recycle the same small gang of adversaries indefinitely. I don't understand how Magneto suddenly knows where Blob is, even before the big guy's memory returns. Blob doesn't come across as the ...

Doctor Doom does not appear in this [review]! We just felt like [dropping] his [name]! Now that I have some color Human Torch, I'm finally catching up on this one series I wasn't reading for the past half year of the Marathon. It doesn't look like anyone commented on this story for this thread. I guess I'm not surprised. The story is probably the poorest of the first half of Human Torch...

"I've heard of some shows putting people to sleep...but this is ridiculous!" This issue almost put me to sleep. I remembered it as being one of the only mediocre issues of Ditko's ASM, and that was borne out. The only parts I liked were the Matt/Karen/Foggy bits: Matt (aside): "Spider-Man is up above the tent!" Foggy: "If there's anything you want us to describe, Matt......

" More !" - Abner Jenkins This is the first Strange Tale in which the Thing joins the Torch, and it really improves the feature. It needed the comedy and the interplay. Plus you get hilarious illos like these: I read ASM 21 a long time ago and apparently the Beetle wasn't very memorable. But I'd never read this first appearance before, and it was better than I was ...

"And Richards' supersonic air-displacer vortex machine will do it for me!" - Doom This issue, taken in conjunction with the second Annual, cements the idea that Doom isn't concerned with Sue, Ben, or Johnny. As he said after seemingly sending Reed to limbo, "I have no further interest in any of you!" He wasn't joking. He's not in a trance, he was merely hypnotized to the...
