VSC off light
Published (2009-12-03 20:18:00)
A number of things can make that light come on, you could have a fault in the ABS or VSC system somewhere, possibly a speed sensor going out or something similar. You will need to put a scan tool on it, if you can get ahold of one, or take it to a shop or dealer and have them pull the codes out of it. If the light has come on, there should be stored trouble codes.

Any Harm Waiting a While to...
Published (2009-11-26 12:27:00)
Hi Kaydee, Thanks for the reply. Yes, my gas mileage has gone downhill, and it does run much more roughly. I have had to replace 5 of my coil packs in the past year too, so it hasn't been running too smoothly for a while. I also realized that the 02 sensor has been bad for 9 months, not 4-5... I was just concerned that it would damage my catalytic converter, that would be incredibly expensive! I know I am going to have to have it...

You should change what you can afford to change... Oil, definitely go with Synthetic, 5w30 or 10w30, either will be fine for that engine... On that motor, the engine will not go kaboom if the timing belt pops. So, if you must, just drive it until it breaks, or another 60k miles or so, then change it... worst case scenario is you have to call a tow truck at an inopportune time and pay for changing it then... as far as water pump, well, if you...

Alternator & Batteries
Published (2009-11-27 19:57:00)
Should I get OEM alternator which cost $400+ or is therean alternator that you guys could recommend? It's falling below specs. Planning to replace my battery since it's 6 years old. Which one should I get? This one would almost be the exact one like OEM 600 CCA, and the alternator won't have any problems fully charging it. http://www.interstatebatteries.com/c...nths+-+600+CCA Or this is higher than OEM, 800 CCA, which the...

not really, but you will notice 2 things... first, your gas mileage will suffer by a lot. The performance side of it will suffer as well. I had my car running on faulty 02 sensor wires for about 3 months and the thing just burn gas like there is no tomorrow...however, when I fixed it, there is a noticeable performance increase. Second, your bumper will get dirtier much faster. All the black soot from the exhaust will end up in your...

Not much to it, really. No special tips or tricks, just set to TDC, disassemble, replace, etc.

It is illegal to deny a warranty claim simply because you did your own maintenance... unless of course whatever the problerm is, was your fault. Best way to keep records in my opinion, would be to document the date/mileage you changed the oil, and keep the receipt for the parts. Its not necessary to have it hand written... I would use the owners manual's maintenance schedule... it has a page for...

Just to note: you'll need a frame jack, because the jack stands normally go where the regular jack would normally be placed. You sound like you know the stuff. You didn't mention a 1/2" socket breaker bar for loosening the lug bolts (that the dealer over-tightened ), or the matching 1/2" socket and maybe 6" extension. Also, for rotations, four jack stands make it really easy to rotate...

Just take the alternator out and get a local rebuild shop to rebuild it for roughly $100.
