Not sure of the application your needing but the Mustang/Cougar car C6's used about a 14" tailshaft. I can crawl under the car and measure one if needed. Most were aluminum cases but some high performance cars had the cast iron tailshaft case. I understand the 70's pickup truck C6's also had a cast iron tailshaft but were slightly shorter in length. I never had one here to compare to say for certain. I also don't...

Another 700R4 Question
Published (2009-11-21 19:02:00)
Anybody replace the speedometer gear housing on a 700R4 lately? I broke the PLASTIC threaded 7/8" male end while installing a pulse generator. I guess I can chisel it out with a screwdriver around the edge since it is already broken, but there is not enough left of the original coupling snout to get a grip on it. Just chip it out? solid bronze work very good and there cheap .roller s can be hard to start in the crank and driving then in can be hard on them. they are not oilite bronze that has oil in it so it never will dry out in turn to dust like the roller can.if theres any run out the bronze will take more of the load. then rollers will .this is how i see it any ways i just put a roller in a engine customer wanted it .just to take it back out to put a bronze one in...

You can leave the band out,but keep the servo shaft in,(you won't have any braking when you downshift without the band or piston). I've built several this way, without any problems, although you make want it in for street use. Brian

got the manual shift valve body for my thm350, In the instructions i remove the inter mediate servo piston assembly and discard. then plug the hole for the apply shaft. also i plug the 2nd gear accumulator passage. Sounds like the band becomes a piece of flotsam, i am rebuilding the trans can i just leave the band out? I sure do not like the idea of it just rattling around in there.

The bellhousing is cast in as part of the C6 transmission case. There is no seperate bellhousing like the C4. You need a FE specific C6 trans to bolt up to a FE.

Thanks for asking this question, I'm about a week away from ordering one for the sbf I'm building and am on the fence between the two. I've never used roller, only bushings, but if they are better I will order one of those. Do you periodically have to go back in and grease the roller ones? Don

Ask them.. http://www.richmondgear.com/index.html There are several factors that will come into play with "how much horsepower" will any component handle. Many times the failure is due to "operator error" i.e., "I revved 'er to 8 grand and dumped the clutch and the transmission blew up!" Not said is that this happened with 4.56 gears and twelve inch slicks on a 4,000 pound car with ...
