Re-using originals is probably safer than 15 quid new ones Although if you're not sure the ones in your car are original, i'd deffo get new. I wouldn't advise re-using non-OEM ones...

oops! yeah its a mk 2 jetta.... that might help! i will try taking out the by pass valves then, the matrix change sounds like a fair bit of work. cheers guys

The smoke is like a dirty grey colour, not sure about vac hoses and HT leads.

VW head bolts are usually stretch bolts and thus one use only.

It will fit, most of the mk3 SPi models have mk2 carb cams. It may have the wrong charachteristics to allow the ECU to go into closed-loop Lambda feedback mode tho...

Check the Audi Driver classifieds for breakers. Audi bits ain't cheap, as you've already found. Rally Design, or any other performance shop, should sell you a choice of fuel lines, or try Think Auto for specific ends.

According to ETKA ABF rad is 630x320mm (630x380mm with aircon) KR rad is 430mm (675mm with aircon)
