The alloy mk4 calipers i have seen use a banjo style connection for the brake pipe unlike the mk3 ones so you will have to change the flexi pipe to do this.

Sub-Frame Question

On my Mk3, that I don`t care about, I jack it on the sills, then place the stands under the wishbone rear mount. On the Mk2 or any other car I do care about, I jack from the `official` point. The `bobbin` shaped piece on the underside of the floor.

Coilovers: grease the threads!
Published (2009-12-31 16:49:00)
a tip i heard on here was spray on bike chain lube, apparently it wont come off easy and isn't sticky so road gunk doesn't stick to it. We put a ton of this on my mates coilovers, only time will tell Oh and be very carefull with the stuff, the guy who sold us it was saying that if you get it on your discs its so luby n sticky you'll probably have to bin em and fit another set! This was referring to bike discs, dunno bout car...

Sunroof is a bit of a pig to remove, lots of spot welds. I just plated over mine with 1mm alluminium rivited in, after a cage is fitted I dont think you need to worry about shell stiffness as much.

Eibach springs are too soft for track use. I've got a Koni Sport kit on the
track car which is a bit stiffer, but still not hard enough for a race car.
Unless you're going to spend money on ball joint extenders and the like, I
wouldn't go lower than a 30 or 40mm drop at the front.

Depends how serious you are about being competitive ?
You can use standard parts and back off on the rough sections but at least use a set up that is matched

wasn't aware coilovers allow bigger wheels?....
it wouldn't put me off them, you just need to be aware that they take a bit of looking after. spraying them with bike lube isn't the biggest chore in the world is it?

you might find it easier to find 280mm setup tbh! loads of MK3 GTIs appearing in the scrappers nowadays, nearly 10 in my local right now! MK3 cabbys are a good source for 256mm front setup.
if you find mk3 gti 280s, obv cant use the hubs so leave them on the car, just need to get some hubs from a 4 studder with 256+ brakes

Buggered old handbrake cables with cracks in the outer plastic can let
water in.

Did the car drive in a straight line after the repairs? Feel like it
wobbled/moved around the road when driving? Scrub tyres? Eat wheel
bearings? Anything like that? If it didn't chances are it could just be the
poor fit of the non gen parts.

My mk3 16v has started to be a pain....
The ABS has stopped working.... the light hasn't worked for years since a rear speed sensor fault came up.... ABS has still worked though with the occasional crunch at low speeds.
There is an occasional loud ticking/clicking noise from under the ABS pump and sometimes the handbrake light comes on. am I right in thinking its knackered?
Bloody well ...

i bought a whole new hand brake lever as mine had the same problem and
failed the mot susequently, it was about £35 from VW trade parts
specialists in Chelmsford(part no 191711303H). easy to fit, just slacken
off handbrake, undo brake cables, take out couple of screws it the floor,
pull off hb tensioner plate thing, disconnect hb light switch then put your
new one on and reverse sequence, not ...
