In celebration of over 100 years of the Motorcycle unit, the Los Angeles Police Department held a two-day celebration at the Police Academy in Elysian Park. Next: Converting Clunkers into EVs?
Published (2009-11-08 14:07:00)
I'll admit to eying cheap, used Suburbans as heavy duty battery holders. The things that makes lead acid not very suitable for EVs are weight and longevity. A Suburban ought to be able to haul a truly massive battery pack… Make it big enough that your typical driving results in a tiny DoD, and it should last a really long time (at least in cooler climates where heat related failure isn't much of an issue). Idle thoughts,...

This still leaves us with hugely wasteful vehicles. Instead of wasting one precious commodity (oil) you wind up under-utilizing batteries and motors, which require plenty of expensive and in some cases rare resources. How far can an Exploder get on a 35 kWh pack? How about a Prius? Now how about an Aptera? If you really need to transport 5+ people then fine. But if this is about retaining them as air-haulers, then no thank you!

Can Chrysler Bounce Back?

It's a long shot at this point, that's for sure. But Chrysler's come back from near-dead before, so who knows ... Quote: the firm's data showed that Caliber prices sat at $18,778 in the first 10 months of the year, compared with $18,855 for the Honda Civic and $17,722 for the Ford Focus. Really?! Wow. Except for the Caliber's hatchback utility, I can't imagine why (other than "anything-but-cute"...

This has crossed my mid also. I could put 49 "normal sized" car batteries behind the second row of my 1998 Suburban; they are about 10 x7x7. Double stacked I could fit almost 100 and still have a fair amount of storage space on top of them. You could probably cobble together a 70-100 mile range city delivery type vehicle for maybe $8000+ cost of used Suburban(under $3000 with plenty under $2000).Depends on how cheaply you...

It wouldn't surprise me to see the Dodge brand replaced by Fiat for Chrysler's small and midsize line-up. It would be a way for Fiat to extend its brand to North America without investing much additional cash for a dealer network. The Dodge brand really hasn't had a hit car in quite a while (since the Voyager in the 80's maybe?). Dodge cars probably have negative reputation similar to Fiat's ...

At least some of the cyclists might have deserved some pain, but certainly not like the two victims....looks like a very good chance some of them were cruising for a brusing.

If we're getting the 1.6L N/A and the 6-speed, the 1.6 EcoBoost won't be missed. About the only way to improve FE-wise would be something like a 1.2L EcoBoost if such a beast were to exist. Overall sounds like a nice little car.

I hate cars without keys. If you used a keyed car for 40 years, you will look for that freakin' key in a pinch when you need to shut it off.
Sure you should read the manual, but most folks don't, and while heading down a hy at 120 mph 3 seconds on a button-540 feet-will seem like forever.
