Before you try to scratch off the stain, try using some LOCTITE 7070. If you look at a chrome finish under a microscope it looks like Swiss cheese. There are holes everywhere and the stain that you see is likely the slug?s goo that has filled up the holes. The 7070 should hopefully clean it up. After you clean the chrome apply a THIN (A few drops go a long way) coat of LOCTITE ...

Don, I would say that kind of stuff DID happen at the factory. Let's list the factory errors which occurred on your old GT-E which I now own... 1) the buck tag was inserted upside down in the machine when the ass'y person stamped in the key information 2) instead of stamping the partial VIN on the back of the driver side cyl head, he/she stamped it into the block right below the cyl head....
