1st question: did you torque the valve body bolts to spec?(80-120 inch Lbs), or just tighten them down? May be leaking @ Case Flange (where VB connects to case) Book says they need to be torqued like a cyl head, Bolts 1,2,3,etc..... 2nd Question: When you move the selector arm (Linkage removed), can you feel the "Detent"(The step of each notch the selector moves across the range)? May have missed the slot in the manual valve when...

If you really want to see if it is for you, take a class at a local adult education center. It is pretty cheap. They will teach you how to do it correctly. They should teach you Arc, Oxy-Acetylene and MIG. A little tourch cutting and Plazma cutting along the way, too. With luck, a little TIG. And you don't have to buy a welder to try it! I bought my 1st welder from "Farm and Home Supply" back in the 80's. It is a 110v...

C4 still giving me troubles
Published (2009-11-24 16:07:00)
I am going out on a limb here since I am not familiar with the C4 (Ask Bill Basore, XR7G428 though). Is there a shuttle valve thingie in the valve body which tells the trans what gear to shift into? Has it pushed all the way in and escaped your attention? Maybe goes into a slot in what is attached to the shifter shaft? Total guess on my part, if nothing else, ask Bill, he will know. Regards, Bob

I broke down and uploaded some photos of my 67 restoration in my profile. Check out the passenger side torque box I created. I think it turned out as nice as I could have hoped, and think she'll be much stronger on the road, along with the 1 1/16" front and 7/8" rear sway bars. Pardon the not-so-pretty weld spots. All too often, because I was welding at night with the lights, radio and fan on (keep fumes away), the wire welder...

Well, since I got back this summer, I've topped off the fluid, and managed a pretty good smoking burn out. http://s819.photobucket.com/albums/z...Stewart684.flv It just occured to me that with a new, tight trans and shift kitted VB, that the super low fluid could cause my issues. I rebuilt the transmission myself, and installed the kit. When it didn't work, I had the trans gone thru again, as well as the shift kit, ( by an outside...

The original sunroofs were sheet metal. If this one is glass, it's an aftermarket model. If you want one of those (aftermarket) get a modern one from the local gadget installer.

A lot of variables here. When you say that the transmission appears to be stuck in park, does this mean that the drive shaft will not turn? There is a shuttle vavle that goes in behind the modulator valve. It can be put in backwards. You might what to check this, but it usually just makes it not shift as opposed to not turn.

OK. about this time last year, ( I think it was last year, now I'm not sure.) I was trying to figure out why my newly rebuilt C4 trans wouldn't shift into a forward gear while up in the air. I replaced the valve body that had had a shift kit installed, with a non modified valve body, and the trans did go into a forward gear. It is in the car now. However, while out cooking on the grill ...

302/351 FMX is the same flexplate for 69. Not sure this is going to fix anything unless you had a weight come off (which is welded).

Are you sure the push rod is adjusted properly? I would imagine it is normal for the engine to stall if you pull the vacuum, due to the fact that it changes the vacuum to the engine quickly. How does the pedal feel when the car is off? Is it stiff and then go down when the car starts?

Not really just 4 more bolts. Exhaust, clutch linkage, connecting plate, etc. The shop manual doesn't really cover the tail section in the rebuild section. The whole thing went in 1000 miles ago. New clutch, pressure plate, throughout bearing behind a rebuilt/bored engine. Only issue is the speedo drive gear. Guess I will pull the tail off and see what I can see. Worst case, I ...

Boy it has been so long since I did one of those. Must be back in the 70's after breaking two in my Cougar. Now I just pull it out carefully with two hands and have spares in the garage. Yes, it is held in place by a roll pin that goes through the handle and into a hole in the metal shaft. I remember that I had to make a careful measurement and then drill a hole in the new handle before sliding ...
