CIV 4 needs Directx 9, Directx 10 and 11 do not have some of the necessary files so you will still have to install Driectx 9.

How do people run giant maps...

Thanks Cykur, I have accepted that I could not play with 32+ civs on a giant map. So I settled with a huge continent map with 18 original civs, with barbarian civ mod turned on, so 3 new civs emerged early on, just on my continent alone. Playing marathon speed. The turn wait is about 10-15sec, not bad but I'm only on turn 490 at 550AD, So hopefully it doesn't get too bad. But I am still curious though as to who plays these maps....

Cannot answer that one, runewood... sorry. All I can tell you is, under Windows 7 64-bit, I had to copy the following files into my C:\Windows\System32 folder: d3dx9_31.dll d3dx9_32.dll Make sure you have a complete backup of your system first, then just go for broke, man! Best, Bamm

Welcome to CFC did you look in program files\ or program files (x86)\ ? what you describe is probably just a lack of shortcuts - not of the game itself...

I am running a 3.2G Pentium 4 with 2.5G RAM and ATI Radeon X300 video card. I was playing this game at 1024 x 768 on a 21" Sony Monitor using the DVI input and it worked fine. I then connected to a 52" Mitsubishi WD52725 DLP HDTV using the RGB and it gives me this "Failed To Initialize Renderer", BS!!!! I have tried everything that everyone else has and nothing!!! The television will support ...

Windows 7 has, thus far, exceeded my expectations. Understand, though...I went straight from 32-bit XP Pro → 64-bit XP Pro → 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate (Beta) → 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate (RC), so I'm not familiar w/ Vista at all. What I can tell you, and everyone else here, is that Civ IV runs very well under Windows 7, even on my humble rig. I've yet to patch BTS from 3.17 → 3.19, but I ...

I've been having alot of trouble installing patch 3.19. After being asked to install patch 3.19 to access online play, I downloaded the patch, but when I started the installation and pressed install, the installer quit itself. You shouldn't have a problem with the machine you quoted, though a better video card might be worth it if you play any big, fancy games. Maybe a Radeon 45xx, 46xx, or 47xx series card. Something with more than a 64 bit interface. A 4350 is pretty low-end, and depending on the manufacturer, they tend to overheat under load. You can also save a lot of money by going with an AMD platform, ...

Welcome to CFC! You need a program that will extract rar files to start with. The last version of winzip I tried didn't support rar files, ori posted a link to one program that does support them in another thread (you should be able to search for it), I use Extract Now (you can google for it). Once you have extracted the files you have to put them in the right place and not using mods I ...

Welcome to CFC! If the Civ 4 it is not installed in your Program Files folder, you may find it installed under the "<Logon Name>\AppData\Roaming\... folder where <Logon Name> is your logon name to that PC. This is a hidden folder so you will have to set explorer to show hidden files and folders before you can see it. To show hidden folders in Vista: Start Windows Explorer (not ...
