Quick question

Most nations have something that makes hem playable. The UU of Korea is the Hi'watcha (sp?). It is very handy as it can kill and it can make a leader. There are write ups around on all the nations. If you are having troubles, you may benefit from checking out the tutorial in my sig.

I guess it is one of the beauties of this game that there are so many ways to get a handle on playing it. It must be a little frustrating for new folks to the game to have all these approaches thrown at them. My own preference is learning the hard way from playing the game, I find it more satisfying than just following some script for how to play. In any case, my original intent for the thread was looking for those folks who found a similar...

I always start looking on turn 3 or 4 to minimize beaker loss maximize gold income. It's not a hard and fast rule, but it does occasionally work. I don't try and use scientists to get it to zero. That's more effort than I want to put into the game. Micromanaging is not what I consider fun.

vanilla PTW or C3C?

I believe timerover51 means Conquests, instead of the "complete" package of games.

I'm still trying to get the full effects of Corruption in C3C. Quick Question: if I build a new city in my core to use up a few unused tiles, does it cause worse corruption on the edge of my core? (the semi-corrupt that I can get 2-4 shields per turn out of) Thanks

AI loses steam as game progresses

Well, I am trying out Overseer's suggested game, playing as the Koreans and sharing the island with the Babs, Sumerians, Maya, Germans, Greeks, Iroquois, and Ottomans. I got a nice start (cow and a deer and a river) and the tech trading is already fierce at turn 20 or so. Hopefully I will manage to survive into the Middle Ages!

Help! Which Civ III and How To...
Published (2009-11-11 23:07:00)
I am a long-time Civ III addict and I could just never get into IV. I played it for a little bit and it wasn't a bad game by any means, I just didn't like a lot of aspects of it. I don't like how they focused so much on bringing the scale of the game down - one of the things I like about Civ III is how you actually feel like you're building a huge, sprawling empire across the world. I don't get that feeling in Civ IV....

Why not trade techs with them frequently? Even gift them if you have to. That way they'll keep up.

No reason to play C3 or PTW, if you have C3C. The interface is much better in C3C. I do load up the others, when someone ask for advise on them and I need to play a few turns.

I'd advise you to go for the complete version. It is the final vesion of civ III (conquests) fully patched and ready to go.
Don't be put off by the advice about adding to the ini file. It's really a minor thing to do and advice on how to do it can be found here if you ask.
I don't know about the Secorum version but I know that there are other versions out there so that should be easy ...

Regent/Monarch for me. I could hold my own at Emp if I really try at ti, but I play the game to have fun. I'm past the 'it's hard but I beat it anyway so it's fun!' stage in my life.

I don't know if these are already familiar to you but I'd recommend the following mods/scenarios:
Age of Imperialism 1895-1924(?) V4.0 Coming soon , but you can play the V3.0 version.
Age of Imperialism II 1923-1953
Medieval European Mod II
Rhye's of the Civilization
Far Horizons
Steph's Mod 3 Alpha-testing (is that what Steph meant?)
Test IV Time
Napoleonic ...

I am a 0- I wouldn't even know how to use them. But if I did, I would definitely be a C. Can you recommend any reference files that are useful and easy to use?
