i didn't really like the fact that waste/corruption was gone. it didn't leave much to do in the game other than hit buttons when it told you to... my view is if you could beat civIII every time, this game would be super easy to you.

I haven't looked at the chances of promotion on attacking vs. the chances on defending, but you're probably right. However, units inside of an army cannot generate MGLs, regardless of whether they're attacking or defending.

SirPleb wrote this on leaders "Each time one of your elite units wins a fight against a rival, there is a 1 in 16 chance that a leader will appear. If one of your cities has built the small wonder "Heroic Epic" then your chance of getting a leader improves to 1 in 12 when you win a fight with an elite. You can not get a leader by fighting a barbarian. Only fights won against rival Civs have a chance of producing a...

Scariest Wars

One game I was on a Pangaea, standard-size 8 civs. The Iroquois became a runaway civ and controlled about 70% of the continent. Eventually it was down to me and them. Sure enough, they declared war on me, and not only were they much bigger, but they were much more advanced. They took a bunch of territory from me early on, and there was no stopping them, and they ended up winning a domination victory (only time I've ever let another AI get...

One of my biggest blunders was when I first played the game, I had one city for a while and when I tried building another I everywhere was already settled up and the civilization I build New York on declared war on me and destroyed my civ in 3 turns. Or was it 5

sigh. i really don't get this idea about iv having little to no micromanagement v. III. it's like another game is being referred to and not cIV. oh well. personally i feel like ive grown sharper analysis and tac-wise playing cIV. a feeling i never really had with civ iii even if i played the game for years. but that's just me.

I got in in the summer of 2002 shortly after getting my then-new Imac. I have played it off and on since, but considerably more once I was able to do some editing on it with first the very buggy editor that came with my MacSoft version of the game, and then the Windows editor for Civ3 Complete on my son's high school Windows laptop. I no longer play the unedited game except for the Age of ...

My scariest was early in playing Civ3 Vanilla, and I was on a long skinny continent with Greece on one side and India on the other, with more civilizations on that continent and the others. India put in a city right next to my territory, while Greece kept sending settlers and warriors across my territory from the other side. I got tired of it and trashed one of the settler combinations, and of ...

Yes it is pointless to keep trying the same turn, since if you failed you'll always fail for a couple of turns.
If you wait for 2-4 (random) turns you'll have a new shot at it. To be sure wait 4 turns.

I share your annoyance with fully corrupt towns. However, they're not useless, as you can turn them into science or tax farms.
Corruption mainly puts a limit on the extent that expansion is still useful, at least for the AI, which don't understand the farming concept. One of the effects is that it reduces the likeliness of runaway AIs. So it balances the game a bit.
I think Civ 4 just ...

Civ 3 is more "serious", and way more moddable.
Civ 4 has some is a bit... glam? comic? I'm not sure how to desrcibe it, it's just not my way for videogames., and new mechanics i. e. religion, which can be copied by a moderately experienced modder in Civ 3.
All in all, kick 's ass.

It's very different. When going for CivIII, I would advise to go for 'Complete', that's CivIII with all the expansion packs. It shouldn't cost you much these days.

One of the reason people have PC and not Mac is so they can play all the games. One of the reason many games are not designed for MAC is it is a very small part of the market. This is partial the reason it has so few issues with virus, not worth the trouble of the people that lioke to do that sort of thing.
They have no reason to give up the code and they won't. MAC users can run in window ...

I prefer CxxC spacing. Not sure about online for civ. I think steam had it, but I suspect patch issues. Do a Google.

Strange problem. Can you use 'Play Last World' and then in the following screens choose your desired settings instead of the preselected ones, of course starting with erasing the seednumber?
