Interesting post. I also used to live in Florida. I really miss it, as the Floridians, at least the native ones I knew of, and that was MOST of the people I lived around, ARE as LAID BACK as you can get. Listen, why get yourself into a funk, when the average daily temperature is going to be around 95 degrees? Sort of like why, way back when, the native New Englanders always made it a point to be nice to your neighbors cuz who knows when you...

It's worse, they only sell houses to the newcomers too. Wanna borrow my out of state license plates for your next job interview?

Welcome to town! We moved ourselves. It was a lot of work and we nearly got ripped off by the rental company but at least we didn't have anything broken in the move. I sure don't want to do it again anytime soon. But you're here! You can relax for a short bit and then unload boxes for the next 2 months.

I am moving to the same area (Woodland Hills) Dec 1 and have been through this process too. First you need to find out what is available in the area where you are buying or building. From what I could find out Verizon is it in the Weaverville area for DSL but you may be too far from a station for it. My wife and I both have Verizon wireless and will keep it. We checked with friends in the area ...

Perhaps Boone? A few healthcare options there ( Watauga Med Ctr & App Regional Health Syst)... and tourism is big in the area. Just be sure to have the job first before moving and best of luck!

Just a quick answer for you, maybe I'll have time to write more later. Bring the Blazer, bring chains, but all-season tires might do. Yes, it's wild on a winding road but the hwys getting into and out of Boone are good. You will not be attacked by a wild animal, and I'm more scared of a Fla alligator than I am our bears. But if you're going to hike deep into a wilderness area, tho, good idea...

Loren Kennedy < southernhomebuilders@clearwire.net >
I posted the info about them in another thread. They built a house for my wife and me in Waynesville. We were very satisfied. Price was about $100 sf, including granite countertops and wood floors. Build time was about 6 months. Quality of the work was great.
