unfortunately the only way to really deal with this is to avoid the subject if possible, calmly state your case when confronted, and laugh it off when you're done. if at some point you get to know her better, or if it gets really unbearable and she won't leave you alone, you might say something like "look, i don't lecture you about your diet, please don't lecture me about mine". my mom is like this to a...

Thanks everyone. I did just try to let her go with a lot of 'ohs' and such. Sometimes you just want to come at them, you know? But it is usually the nod, nod response from me! I just have to say that this made me chuckle: Quote: Originally Posted by redjan1225 Like we all need more mother-in-laws in our lives?? I love home made applesauce. Being lactose intolerant, I'm so limited in the little snacky things I can enjoy (i.e. string cheese, yogurt). I also have interstitial cystitis (a bladder condition) and really watch my asorbic and citric acid intakes. Store bought applesauce usually has sugar and preservatives. I usually do a batch of organic gala apples, peeled and cored. Chop them up and cover with a little water. Add a tiny bit of...

People like her are NOT worth wasting your breath on. ^^^^ THIS! People that are as rude and judgmental as this woman seems to be simply aren't worth my time and effort. Being vegan/vegetarian is an ethical/spiritual choice for me, just as religion is to others. I would never attack a persons religious beliefs, as long as they leave me alone. Since you aren't going around trying to force vegetarianism on others, I think her behavior...

Black bean stew with zucchini, red potatoes, and corn, served with baked polenta.
Not for those on " low carb" diets, eh?
We both ran and rode and worked around the house today so we feel like we need a bit of refueling. We also have movie night: "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" and for some lighter fare, "Duplicity".
Will open a bottle of Temperanillo shortly.

Being a vegetarian doesn't mean that you will be slim. If your diet consists of processed foods, like donuts, ice cream etc. you will still be overweight. I think a lot of vegetarians tend to be more health conscious than the average person, so they eat healthier, less processed foods and less sugar... but there ARE fat vegetarians.

Something to look for is populations with large groups of people that are vegetarians for religious reasons like Hindu or SDA. Where I live there is a growing population of Hindu vegetarians which has caused most of the area restaurants to start offering more vegetarians options.

Hmmm...I've never had one. They're about 20 dollars here, the family size. The stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy are extra. Is it worth it? I guess I should probably get a small one beforehand, just to be sure.
I had the best cranberry sauce last year. It had orange zest in it, with whole cranberries and walnuts. Sooo good!
