I lived a few blocks from downtown Mountain View and it was OK but not great, certainly nothing like San Francisco, where I lived previously. The downtown is really just one street, 4-5 blocks long, with a few bars and way too many Asian restaurants. There are also a few coffeeshops and bookstores, and a passable brewpub. Caltrain and VTA light rail are very convenient, directly adjacent to ...

Somehow I knew I would be a part of this thread. The thing about San Jose is that there are a lot of important roads, and they don't always behave the way you expect. It's sometimes easier to remember the exceptions to the rules. But mainly the problem is learning what freeways you can access where. For example, it's helpful to know that you can't connect from northbound 87 to southbound ...

Standard advice I've heard is that you should pay no more than 28% of your gross income toward rent, absolute maximum. In your case that would be $1166/month. If you are substantially below this you are probably OK, as long as you don't have any debt or other unusual expenses such as children or a car lease. No doubt you would live more comfortably in most other parts of the country on that ...

Check out Cabrillo College in Aptos. Its a community college so price should be right. Then check craiglist for rentals/roomates of course. Many college students live in SC so you request is a fairly common thing. I don't know about the rest, maybe others will chime in. Derek

from: San Jose, CA to: Livermore, CA - Google Maps On a typical weekday, a commute from San Jose to Livermore is going against the flow of traffic on 680 and 580, since most of the local job centers are lined up along the Bay or in the Santa Clara Valley. I'd wager that it would take no more than 45-1 hour, 15 minutes to get from SJ to Livermore and back. Where exactly from SJ are you ...
