Funny Nita, SFO is the airport. StormingWynn- my former college roommate is from Kansas (we went to school in DC) and she used to work at USF. It's a cool school and if financial aid is available to you then that'd be GREAT! Are you in Lawrence now?

I'm not a good to ask about what kept me there, as the economy and concerns about money have led us to (reluctantly) give up on the city. I have a kid, though, so that adds pressures that it sounds like you don't need to worry about. I haven't lived in NY; I'm sure it is more laid back than there. I used to live in DC, and I didn't find SF to be all that different on that front. I think there was a thread on here...

Well I guess coming from LA and being around the entertainment industry for so many years, moving up here just seemed like that type of business didn't really exist here to earn a real or steady living sp SF doesn't necessarily attract the same quantities of creatives due to lack of opportunities. I'm sure there are aspiring and talented film makers, writers, art directors etc. in the bay area, but I'm sure at some point,...

I will abide by the ban... but I greatly resent the broad way it's implemented... Many have invested dearly to install EPA certified, catalyst equipped stoves with the required city/county permits. These stoves are certified to burn clean and this was brought up at the BAQMD hearing I attended... so these stoves are not a problem and they are not dirty polluters... Modern EPA stoves are efficient and use a home grown renewable resource...

You say you'd like to be published; does that imply that you're not currently making a living with your writing? If so, do you have a plan B for paying to live in San Francisco in the meantime? You're coming from NYC, so you have experience with high cost of living, but I would not suggest leaving NY for SF if you don't have a source of income already in place. I'm a writer, but not active ...

Actually, the student housing market in Palo Alto is very thin, generally speaking, students can't afford to live in PA - too expensive. Students primarily live in Stanford, which is a separate entity. But there is a seasonal factor nevertheless, it's provided by parents with school-age children. Two of the most prestigious Silicon Valley public high schools, and a number of elementary/middle ...

Depends on what you mean by good. The city itself has tons of kids (at least in certain neighborhoods), and there's lots of things to do: Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, walking along the water, exploring the various neighborhoods, tons of local parks, nice storytimes at the libraries, lots of family-friendly cafes, etc. I've heard some public schools are quite good, but currently the ...

There is virtually no film industry in SF other than the animation studios. If one has a dream to work in the film industry that is in Los Angeles. If you are more new media, especially if you are very good at coding, than SF would be a great place. A cliche' to illustrate this could be; In LA everyone is writing a screenplay. In SF everyone is working on an iphone app. The job market in SF is ...

The coliseum is located next to I-880 freeway and isn't too far from the Oakland airport (lots of motels/hotels in the area). This area along the freeway is mostly industrial/commercial. I wouldn't worry about crime too much in this area. There are certainly other parts of Oakland that are worse and I wouldn't venture into.
