Best home builder in area?
Published (2009-12-08 19:32:00)
Rich.. think about it....when all the building stopped and everything changed, all the skilled labor had no more jobs. They had to find other way to make a living and the crews were disbursed. Nobody is really building a house right now since we have so many new or next to new homes available at awesome prices. Personal opinion... I wouldn't have a house built right now from ANYBODY. You would no idea who their crews are coming from. It...

Thinking of moving to st. Lucie...

Interesting thread. I do want to point out, however, that "most" PSL people do NOT work in Palm Beach County. The average commute time for PSL residents is 26 minutes or so, which is the national average. However, it takes a lot longer than 26 minutes to get to Palm Beach County!

Heading for Hobe Sound next week

Hey guys, thanks for the advice, I really appreciated it, but my trailer space connection is starting to waffle a bit, and that space is starting to look a bit iffy now. Unless I can put my trailer somewhere for a month cheap or free I'll end up in the local RV park paying $500 a month, which I most certainly cannot afford, and that would be the deal stopper. I'll know more later tonight. a.

$500 Free Gas or Groceries
Published (2009-12-05 18:39:00)
Update: I googled these gas and grocery rebate offers and they are a scam. Some people have even gone to small claims court as they actually purchased something because of them. I've neither purchased anything nor did I send any activation fee. Needless to say, I won't be doing business with Coastal floors and granite.

Looking for info on St. Lucie...
Published (2009-12-07 08:01:00)
OK...I'm looking for a secure gated community in the St. Lucie West area. Must be gated because for the first couple of years I will be away most of the year. It can be 55+ as I am semi-retired. I prefer some of the newer ones (I'll say homes built sinced 2002). I don't want a community that looks deserted with empty homes, high rentals or unfinished projects like Tradition. I know Port St. Lucie well. Have friends there and...

Best home builder in area?

Who builds the best homes in the Treasure Coast area -- in terms of quality of materials and the hurricane- and flood-resistant construction techniques used to assemble them?

Vero Beach or Sarasota
Published (2009-12-03 02:53:00)
Sarasota has much more to offer than Vero, and a much more diverse population. Vero is VERY whitebread and elderly with not much to do. I think the people are friendlier in Sarasota. Vero seems to be comprised of people who fled rust belt factory towns up north who now think they've "arrived" to some new found status because they now live in some gated trailer park with a club house AND pool.

People cannot get into that kind of subject here but what I would suggest is contacting a Realator and ask them to show you several houses. Once you get into a house ask who the builder is. One particular builder will be obvious to you as the worst one ever. They are big in the area so you should be able to see many of their homes. You don't need to be a building inspector to see their shoddy ...

Yes I do and I will locate their card. In the meantime please be aware of companies in Florida that advertise infrequently and make phone calls to residents with pools. We installed a pool with our new home then as we were considering a pool heater we got a call ..... The company was local so I checked it out. We were excited and the price was high but we wanted a solar pool heater.

Port St. Lucie schools, yes. The St. Lucie district gets a bad rap, but it's pretty much Fort Pierce bringing the grades down, and PSL kids do not go to Fort Pierce schools.

I have lived in Tradition in PSL for the last 2 years. It's a mix of all family ages. Plenty of children, plenty to do, shopping is right here and the homes are 5 or less years old. I personally love it here.
There is a Charter School here for K thru 8 that you can apply for as well.
Your prices for everything will go up once you enter Palm Beach County/ Jupiter WPB. I would not ...

I dont think PSL is the place you should consider for the following reasons:
1. Jobs - few and far between
2. The prices are dropping - but not that low - and if you have no money to put down
there may be other places, but SFL has a bit of a tough road ahead and it does not sound as if you are well positioned at this time to relocate to this area.

I really like the crystal river area on the west coast, you get the beautiful rivers and the gulf..When I
was there about 15 years ago it wasn't overbuilt..But, when you get older and retire you may see the
advantage to living near relatives...Its not something you think about when you are younger..

Our home was built in 2004 and we selected metal shutters. They cost us $1,800 installed. They do work well for our 4bed, 3bth and 2cg home..
We have 2 doors that are glass. The dual front and the 3rd bathroom. All doors that were not covered with shutters have a solid steel door to replace the glass ones. I believe the doors cost $375 and $250 and we purchased electronic locks separate and...

Try to stay away from abandoned neighborhoods- places where the majority of homes are vacant or in foreclosure.
Make sure you check for mold- a lot of homes have had the power off for a while.
Look for an area that does not have half started homes. An established thriving neighborhood is what you want.
Remember, homes are worth what you pay. If you buy a house listed for $150,000,it ...
