My 2 sons (in their 20's) are here for the weekend, they came in late Xmas Eve......since my husband & I are so new to the area (right outside of Allentown) & we don't go out much (except out to eat once in a blue moon).....we have no idea where to take them . One stop will be the Sands Casino but that's about all we can think of. We'd like to take them out to eat....something they can't get in the...

If the weather is good, why not take a walk down Main Street in Bethlehem. Here's a good site about that city: ChristmasCity.org - Bethlehem, Pennsylvania - Things to Do The Farmers Market in Allentown is fun. Allentown Fairgrounds Farmers Market - Allentown, Pennsylvania You can eat right there. In downtown Allentown is the Art Museum Allentown Art Museum Seafood-wise, the best seafood, I've had around here was at Emeril's...

Thanks your input is greatly appreciated. This years snow is a freak thing so i can see you having mixed feelings. You feel like a prisoner snowed in for days. I dont know if we would be able to handle all that cold/snow. We will explore in the spring. You have to give an area a good 18months to deceide if you like it or not. 97 degrees in sept/oct is just way too much already. Thanks again.

I guess my post didnt post. Ugh. Anyway, I am really surprised by this news. There really arent many AVAILABLE good jobs in the area, and the area seems to attract more uneducated folks than educated. Hopefully this trend will continue, and we will perhaps have more businesses move in and call the Valley home. I think this area really needs to do more to attract more companies. Olympus was a great start, and having the Sands helps, but we...

Lehigh Valley unemployment is over 10% but if you used the real figures and not state data it's more like 15-20%.

W. William Shay, DO, 19 Anthonys Mills Road, Barto, PA 19504
Phone: (610) 845-8400
He is a family practice physician who also does acupuncture and a variety of natural treatments in addition to mainstream medicine. Dr. Shay is wonderful and definitely worth the drive! He takes our insurance too.

LifetimeLocal, I agree with many of your points, but I gotta say, you're like the reincarnation of "EmmausRocks." from a year or so ago.

I moved from Long Island, NY because it's TOO EXPENSIVE! After spending my entire life there up until last year I realized that I was paying so much to live there and not getting too much out of it. Leaving NY has allowed to me to have more money to actually enjoy life..

I currently live in the southern lehigh area, making 50k with a small house, and I just break even. Did you check out any Real Estate offices, I'm sure there are some that may have rentals or at least know of some. With a lot of people in a pickle trying to unload their houses, you may be able to negotiate a deal privately- a win-win for both sides.

Thanks. We live in fl and own a home in the lake norman area of nc. Im now 2nd guessing moving to nc and thinking i would like to be closer to LI and dont want to deal with the north ...south bs in charlotte. I would rather be near lakes and rivers than the beach so pa sounds good to me. How are the property taxes there compared to nc? Thanks again.

What a coincidence karen_s that you recommend him! Actually Dr. Kunkel was a chiro that I found doing a search of Palmer grads in the area. I did call his office & I believe I spoke with a lady named Diane. Unfortunately, I had to cancel the appointments I made for the 3 of us. He's very pricey for an initial consult w/ x-rays & it's impossible for us to manage that now because of the holidays...

A taste of what is coming your way.
About 8.5 inches of snow at 8:50 AM in Reston, VA, a suburb about 20 miles to the north and west of Washington, DC. Elevation of around 500 feet above sea level. Expecting 3 inch per hour rates this afternoon, and total storm accumulations of nearly two feet with blowing and drifting too. Y'all want some of that?!

The pharmacist job market is tight in the Lehigh Valley, and pretty much tight all over, except in rural and semi-rural areas where many people do not wish to relocate. The bad news is that it will get tighter, as the schools spill out a plethora of new pharmacists, and the employment opportunities gradually dry up due to vastly improving technology and the greater us of less expensive ...
