I pay $11,000 per year in property taxes. My town has been on a spending spree with a huge growth in the school population, and the consequent need to build more schools. For a long time, our taxes were low because the school system was underutilized for the population because so many older people whose kids had long since finished school stayed in their homes. I think it's just the historical nature of the road, but I could be wrong. Might be tough to put lights in the tree-lined median, for one.

I used to like his "independent streak" and still wish more politicians were that way....I mean why can't you be liberal on some things and conservative on others (I'm not saying you * HAVE * to be, but why can't you be?). I am not sure where you are that is still a "pocket" of prosperity but in general the economy here is fairing better than the national average. Is it great? No, but then again as I said we usually get hit later in a recession and come out of it later. Jay
