I pay $11,000 per year in property taxes. My town has been on a spending spree with a huge growth in the school population, and the consequent need to build more schools. For a long time, our taxes were low because the school system was underutilized for the population because so many older people whose kids had long since finished school stayed in their homes. I think it's just the historical nature of the road, but I could be wrong. Might be tough to put lights in the tree-lined median, for one.

If you're coming from Western Mass, you might feel right at home in our "dump". West Hartford and Glastonbury aren't cities by the way.

just moved from Ridgefield two months ago after growing up there myself and raising my 7 yr old twins there most recently. They mention NY being last, which I would expect, but I wish they'd show more than where the top 3, NY, and CA ranked. I'm curious if other northeast states ranked low.

I am not sure where you are that is still a "pocket" of prosperity but in general the economy here is fairing better than the national average. Is it great? No, but then again as I said we usually get hit later in a recession and come out of it later. Jay
