Rock-climbing catfish I'll bet that would be interesting to watch, hammering in the petons, struggling for finger or toe holds! Also, how do they carry up the ropes, they have no shoulders upon which to sling them.

How atheists deal with Christmas...

I try to ignore it all as best I can, but like most Atheists I have family members who love the lights, and will have something for all religious views scattered around the house. She does skips the catholic garbage for me, and that is good enough for me.

Atheists for Jesus (???)
Published (2009-12-19 20:54:00)
I think an athiest could view jesus from a non-religious perspective, much like I look at other people, contemporary persons and historcal. Some people think jesus didnt exist and some do. An athiest person could believe jesus did exist and I'm sure there is something to garner from the teachings and writings that are atributed to him. I would think most people are of the opinion that athiests would not consider jesus or anything having...

Having Gay/Lesbian Children
Published (2009-12-24 20:06:00)
I will be honest and say I would be a little troubled initially because it will seem so awkward to me. All my life I have been on the "straight" side and have been, as far as I can tell, around people who are straight. It is all I have known on a close and personal level. That being said, it will be faaaaaaar more easier to deal with it now than when I was a Christian where in my early days as a Christian I actually believed...

I honestly can't imagine it would bother me. I'd be more bothered by the fact that I had a child in the first place, as that is the last thing I'd want.

Dont' totally agree with Maher, but I don't totally disagree either.
He makes some excellent points but, as usual, his method leaves something to be desired.
My feeling, religion needs to recognize that logical thought and proof of statements is not the enemy, just a different method of explanation that has actual subjective proof and does not need "faith" to believe it.

You don't have to take "..he might never walk again" as gospel. The key word might makes it completely an open question whether he will or not.
It's very hard to be patient with religious people who just won't let up. Rather than not going home, I'd try to come to some agreement with all concerned in no uncertain terms that the religious talk simply has to stop. They are entitled...
