"DH does not feel that he has lost any sexual function a result of having been circumcised as an infant." But he has no starting point for reference, Does he?? There is a lot of information available on the internet that will be available to your son one day.? What if he doesn't agree with that?? What if he feels he has been sexually crippled and is very angry? "I know several men who were circumcised as teens b/c of...

"... it's in it's natural form and that fits best with how I view most things in life." I couldn't say better, Harmony. By the way, your signature's Viktor Frankl quote and your picture with its truism are what makes us what we are... humanity at its most perceptive and educative best. Christopher

Oh, my! Another well thought out and presented argument in support of anti-circ'ing. This is the type of debate that I truly enjoy and the type from which I learn the most. Thank you!

milacelcia said: "1. I say obvious -- because anyone who decides to circumcise is clearly considering appearance -- since it has become an acceptable societal practice .. people get used to seeing a circumcised penis." It is a disappointing that in a country such as ours that such a practice is acceptable. Hopefully, with time, that will eventually change and we'll catch up to the rest of the first world. Reasoning like this...

<<The rumor mill has it that the AAP is considering taking the opposite tack in their next policy statement.>> If that does happen, if the AAP in fact does take a stance in favor of RIC, then it will be a sad, sad day for America indeed.? It will also likely be the first time in my life that I will truly feel ashamed to call myself an American. Do you know when the AAP is planning to come out with their next policy statement??...

"Calling each other on statements made requesting clarification (and evidence) is a GOOD thing. It clears up the meaning for the new reader as well as those who lurk here regularly. Thank you for giving Frank a chance to clarify and expand upon his post." That's what I thought. I think it's important to do that, even when we agree generally.

<<You show an amazing unconcern for this. I have a high school friend who is a small town mortician who tells he gets 5 or 6 bodies every year with deadly MRSA infections contracted in the surgical suite. Baby boys are subject to these infections at the circumcision site. Having poorly developed or practically non-existant immune systems puts them at particular risk.>> I work on a unit where at any given time up to...

I feel the same way. Traci. But I will have to see it before I will believe it. Sometimes these rumors are generated deliberately?as rumors many times develop a life of their own. Also sometimes put out to get an idea of public sentiments prior to any decision. As long as the board can escape memberships by religious or monetary seeking individuals I have hope. ? I find the information in the AAP Policy Statement on HIV?of 2002? and their...

Thank you, Melissa, for your thoughtful replies! My DH is circumcised too, but he wishes he wasn't. He never really thought about it until we had our babies, and at the time (15 years ago), we didn't see any reason to put our babies through an essentially cosmetic procedure. Now that he has raised intact boys, and seen for himself how a foreskin works (at lesat on a 5-yr-old), he wishes he had one. He doesn't "know"...

This topic is something that interests me very much because I do believe that my younger son has a loose circ. He definitely did have issues in his first year of the remaining foreskin readhering to the glans and the doctor had to gently pull it away at one appointment. I look at both my boys in the bathtub and there is definitely more glans showing on my older boy than on my younger boy. ...

I think it's easy for American parents to gloss over the risks because of the fact that it is such a common surgery. They think 'Why would doctors do it if it was so risky?' There is also the common 'I've known x number of kids who were circ'd and they were just fine.' We see this phenomenon in c-sections as well (not meaning to change the subject, just using it for a comparison). Many ...

I've read her comments before and she might be right, that there won't be much a decrease in rates. Were it not for individuals trying to associate CC with circumcision I would be fully agnostic on the issue of a CC vaccine. And to a large extent I still am but I'll use it for a chip in the debate. Also I don't think it's a bombshell that it wasn't formally tested in those younger than 15 anyone...

Wow Christopher, you've hit most of the justifications! " Circumcising boys is not only done by everyone I know, but it's also legal and necessary." "Everyone" usually means men his age are mostly or all circumcised. Boys his son's age will be a different situation. Half of them will not be circumcised. When everybody is alike, no body thinks about it but when there are a ...

I guess when you can't feel it and can't see it there is the possibility of rubbing it raw to the point of discomfort before realizing it had strayed. Likely had underwear two sizes to small taken up by butt and belly allowing the vertical door to be wide open. "Isn't this the crux of any debate which discusses the norm versus the adverse? I know some will argue that the USA's normality is a circumcised penis, but in fact we must accept the ubiquitous presence of foreskins across the world . THIS is the norm." Actually, the fact that all boys are born with a foreskin establishes intact as normal and circumcision is an aberation. This is ...
