Uv sterilizer plumbing

How many Watts is your UV light? The "max flow rate" of a UV is what the unit is rated to handle before it leaks... if has nothing to do with efficiency... To be fully effective you should not push more than 10 gph per W past a UV bulb...

Quote: neverending algae bloom. Just out of interest, how long do you guys think it will be before i see a differnce? Can only relate my tanks experiance..55g with a 9 watt UV. and 120gph pump. 12hr. an obvious clearing 24hr, a clean looking tank, at last 36hr, never seen it this clear At that point, I turned the light off. The water stayed crystal ever since, without turning the UV light back on. I pulled it out of the system and made it so...

Yep... that's the one. The Eheim is the only autofeeder I would really trust. Make sure you set it up a couple of days in advance so you can make sure it's working the way you expect.

Heater in DIY background?
Published (2009-12-01 00:34:00)
Sorry it took so long, but uploading the pictures of the tank now... I've decided to scrap my idea and copy bface1212's slate background concept, and incorporate some changes into it to meet my needs. First things first, my current background. Wanting to change my background, I went out and got 100 lbs of emerald green slate (looks pretty gray to me), and a background layout that I like so far looks like this. This picture also...

what should i get Canister
Published (2009-11-27 23:05:00)
To be honest kmuda, priming isn't a problem. Just fill up the cansiter with tank water before you seal the lid That is what I used to do with the Magnum filter I had on my 90G saltwater tank years ago. But I'm not sure I like the in line shut off valves that the classic series use. Thanks for the tip on the leakage problem on the Pro IIs.

Lighting and algae growth
Published (2009-11-30 19:15:00)
I cannot say that I've ever heard about a 1W per gallon limit to avoid algae... I've certainly had algae free tanks with more wattage than that and I've had brown diatoms with less wattage than that. If you want to reduce the amount of algae growth, the cheapest option is simply buy a timer and decrease the length of time the lights are on. Many people shut the lights off during the day on weekdays when they are at school or...

If you have filterfloss or the fine polishing pads, when they clog it will cause the air bubble. You can also check all your joints and tubing to make sure they aren't sucking in any air.

I don't know the answer to your question. However, my All-Glass 40 breeder tank does not have a tempered glass bottom. I have about 100 lbs of rock in it and it isn't an issue. However, it has a 36" x 18" foot print. So, if your 55 is a standard size, the 40 br is 12" shorter.

It depends if you are wanting to do CO2 injection. http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl3684/cp183 60/si1379086/cl0/coralifefwt5a qualightdoublestriplight36 Above is a twin T5 setup giving you 42 watts or 1.4 watts a gallon, a little low. Low light tanks in my opinion need to be at least 2 WPG http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl3684/cp183 69/si1383181/cl0/...

I have a 56W AquaUltraviolet UV hooked inline with a ProIII 2080. I think you are incorrect with that gph you posted and are more likely getting 450GPH out of that can. Mebbe the 1700 is LPH. In that case than you should be very close to the constraints of your UV at 400GPH if the 2180 pushes the same as the 2080. HTH.

I have been using an Eheim 2080 for around 5 years now and have no complaints. It pushes greater than 400gph with media from bucket tests I have done and is very easy to maintain.

I've used Penn Plax, Whisper, Penguin, and AquaClear HOB filters in the past and the quietest IME has been the AquaClears. They are also quite reliable. I use two AC 30's on my 55 (one at each end) to supplement my canister. If I were going to go with a single HOB plus a canister on a 55, i'd probably use an AC 70 at the opposite end from the canister intake.
