QUOTE (heather99 @ Jan 6 2009, 01:40 AM) If ever I was required to swear upon the bible, i'd open to Matthew 5:34-37, and read it- "But I tell you, do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is God's throne, or by the earth, for it is His footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your...

QUOTE (Consumed_in_Him @ Jan 1 2009, 04:49 PM) Hold up. You're stating kids are like atheists, with no reason for that. Can you get some evidence to back that up? I didn't mean atheists can't act good. It's just that, logically, they don't have a reason to act good. The fact that some do act good indicates something, but that's a whole other topic entirely. My reasoning comes from my work in...

QUOTE (Guitar Guy @ Jan 3 2009, 04:19 PM) You know, they probably did. And if they did so, they did it without telling everyone about it, which is perfectly fine . If they don't say a single thing about it that's fine. That's all I ask. then be more thankful for the sacrifice they gave for your rights to say such horrible things. Honestly, it's NOT OKAY to say that you would beat someone with the end of a...

CTF Official Abortion Debate
Published (2009-01-06 22:32:00)
QUOTE (Max Power @ Jan 6 2009, 02:18 PM) Even if you are against abortion there is no point in getting it outlawed. The fact is, women will get the abortions regardless, but if it is made illegal they will then go to back alley abortionists, witch is incredibly dangerous. Many people will get an infection from botched abortions and they won't go to the hospital out of fear of prosecution, and die of the infection. This...

QUOTE (Roaming Atheist @ Jan 6 2009, 12:35 AM) AquinasD, a quick thought about your logic-based conclusion: I can use all the logic in the world to come up with a correct conclusion based on that logic, but that doesn't make it right. As an example: Revenge is sweet Revenge is a dish best served cold Ergo; revenge is ice cream Based on all the evidence presented in that logical train of thought, you can't help but...

"under God" In Pledge...
Published (2009-01-02 18:30:00)
QUOTE (afriendlyatheist @ Jan 2 2009, 10:15 PM) That doesn't matter...it's part of the pledge.. This still doesn't justify a non-secular phrase being in the pledge. In 1970, the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit ruled that: "It is quite obvious that the national motto and the slogan on coinage and currency 'In God We Trust' has nothing whatsoever to do with the establishment of...

CTF Official Abortion Debate
Published (2009-01-06 22:03:00)
"Even if you are against helping the homeless, there is no point in getting it outlawed. The fact is, people will help the homeless regardless." The point I think he was trying to make is that someone having a personal objection to something is not sufficient grounds to alter legal rulings. There needs to be some universally agreeable standard against it. "The Bible says so," is not a standard that is...

I personally don't see a problem with most forms of birth control in marriage. I didn't see it mentioned here but there can be a moral issue with "the pill" for some depending on when you believe life begins. One of the 3 ways the pill works is that if conception happens, the uterin wall is thinned out and implantation chances are greatly decreased. So, if you believe life starts at ...

QUOTE (BlueIsBen @ Dec 27 2008, 07:17 PM) Sources please Sure. Information for Spanish Inquisition is from Wikipedia, estimating that the total is between 3000 and 5000, though actual reports would place it between 1080 and 3000. Information for Ku Klux Klan will have to be re-examined and possibly taken back. However, the current information I have indicates that there ...

Is there really a need to pray to saints, or should we only focus on God? Apostolic *succession (sorry for using the wrong term)- Does this make anyone more special then another? Catholicism and its ideas and controversies- justified or just mere tradition? My opinion:I don't think prayers to saints for the purpose of getting them to pray for you makes a difference. I have no problem ...

I just watched a clip on morgan freeman talking about black history month. I gotta say, I legitimately agree with the man. Do you agree or disagree with the existance of black history month? I personally believe we should get rid of it. For one, it kind of implys that for the other 11 months, black history doesn't even need to be considered. Another thing, is that I consider black ...

With Inauguration day approaching, I would like to know how others feel about the phrase, "so help me God", used at the end of the President-Elects oath of office. Legally, if the President Elect does not want to say it, he is not required to, because it was not included in the Constitution. The Constitution specifies in Article VI, clause 3: "The Senators and Representatives before ...

I'm from the UK, luckily we haven't been as badly infected by Happy Holidays/WinterLights and other politically correct junk as the US, but it is creeping in. The only option is Happy/Merry Christmas . Christmas is a Christian festival. Even if the person you are talking to isn't a Christian the holiday period still is centred around a Christian festival. In the Bible we are not called to ...

I am completely against this. If they want to give that person a punishment, you shouldn't just kill him. How is that going to punish him for his crime anyway? Just give him a cruel punishment so he can live with it for the rest of his life and what he/she has done.

QUOTE (Alexey @ Dec 27 2008, 10:06 PM) It's a question of human sanity, and not quite as simple as this one sentence you condense DADT into. To a closeted homosexual in ANY work is difficult enough. Think about this. People take pride in their relationships: in the military, you make the closest friends you ever will have. Except. What if you can never share your family with them? ...

I know we have discussed this topic, but I'd like to revisit it. Should "under God" remain in the Pledge of Allegiance? Just as a reminder, "under God" was added to the Pledge in 1954. This post has been edited by AceTalon : Dec 31 2008, 01:54 PM
