I just think it's Guy trying to tell us he's "on point" and "off the hook". ;-D

LOL! But hasn't Tom had the soul patch for awhile? Maybe it's just a bit more pronounced.

I liked that he was willing to listen to the students and give them credit for their good ideas and good work. Instead of being the all-knowing chef/teacher, he listens attentively when she tells him about the farmers' market and then gives her credit for inspiring the visit. He could just as easily have dismissed her with a "everyone knows about the market, we're already planning a trip there" but he appeared to...

I would never have noticed, except for this thread but the store seemed to have every type of Eggos, except the basic one and there were signs up about them. I never realized there were so many different types of Eggos!

once again we're in agreement on all fronts. i've been conflicted all along about Michael, because while his attitude/immaturity occasionally makes me want to slap him, he's clearly incredibly talented - i suspect even more so than his brother. plus, if we're being honest here, i've always had a thing for bad boys ;)

Except that you do seem to care, in that some categories seem to be especially suspect as far as "affirmative action" goes.

Barry Levinson always managed to work some great food scenes into his movies. Who can forget from "Avalon": You cut the toikey?! You CUT the toikey!!

The "set" Ina Garten uses on her current show is actually a kitchen in the barn behind her house in The Hamptons. So it is real and very nice. The old "set" was actually her kitchen in her current home.

I & my husband enjoy that show. It just depends, man vs food = quantity over quality, Anthony Bourdain show = quality over quantity. And honestly, I did it one time, I ate until I got sick.

Is that the Lenny Henry comedy series? If so it simply uses a restaurant kitchen as the main stage in a pretty average situation comedy. It would be like buying the US series "Home Improvement" if you wanted to renovate your house.

I've liked this show for a while. It's a surprisingly decent resource for Japanese home cooking. I second the recommendation to anyone who hasn't seen it and is interested in Japanese food.

My guess is that your right on. If you check out most of the cable TV networks, the top (most informed and informing) shows are done in Canada. That's true from children's shows on PBS, to cooking and decorating shows pretty much across the cable TV board. If I could, I would try to make an argument on behalf of U.S. originated shows by citing the writer's strike as a possible detriment, but ...

How is this article in any way "pompous" or "self-promoting"? Harold McGee isn't forcing anyone to do what writes. He uses some science to explain what happens to meat as it is brined and then expresses his opinion on what he prefers. Your ad hominem attack on New York, California, and "the current cabal from Chicago" is silly and does nothing to support your argument which is weak on it's face....

Was it me or was the episode strangely edited and produced? At the half hour mark they were already doing the countdown. I realize they need a longer intro for the finale and a longer, final debate, but they also picked roasts and ribs for the ingredient, foods that deserve time to cook. Would you want ribs or buffalo steamed in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes? Blah.

Michael's arrogance makes me less interested in his food. He's now said twice - Kevin's food is what I make on my day off. I hope he goes next week, and we get one more week of Jen. Kevin's expression, when he won, was priceless. He looked overcome. I think he's a great guy. I do believe it could go either way, at final, between him and one of the Voltaggio Brothers. I hope ...

I also prefer my hosts a bit subdued. I think Ming Tsai is my perfect idea of a cooking host. He's knowledgeable, humorous, easy to understand, has personality and is cute (though I don't know what he's thinking of with his hair-do in recent times). But I also like more bubbly hosts like Andrew Zimmern (I know he doesn't have a cooking show now). Paula Deen is not too bad on her own. But if you...
