I just don't like the sound of the NSP. Well I have to respectfully differ. The NSP are absolutely lovely especially when playing the tonally odd old repertoire. Further research ongoing. BTW, I think I read somewhere that Jon Swayne's smallpipes are based on French design. I haven't heard that. But his "Border pipes" use "Contintental" fingerings. Does anybody have any links to media which features slow...

Here's some smooth jazz à la Martyn Bennett: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSg1r10SLwk . You get to hear a bit of vibrato on the GHB. If you can find it, Martyn Bennett's 'Magic Flute' on smallpipes has great use of vibrato. Vibrato tends to be used a bit more sparingly on Scottish pipes for no reason other than tradition. Even on more progressive pieces it's just used for a bit of emphasis here and there. Just the...

Why no use of vibrato, whilst Union pipes are all about vibrato? Is it a traditional thing, or is there some mechanical reasoning? I'd consider a set, but from playing my low whistle, I've got naturally 'twitchy' fingers BS. _________________ "A noble spouter he'll sure turn out, or An out and outer to be let alone; Don't try to hinder him, or to bewilder him, ...

I'm taking stock of my bagpipe collection and am going to be getting rid of pipes that I rarely play: Cornish Doublepipes by Julian Goodacre , in D, with bass drone. (photo and soundbite available on www.celticpiper.net though these were made before I got the bass drone, which sounds great.) This may be the only Goodacre Cornish pipe with a drone in existence. I have around $2000 in ...

its hard to tell for sure if they are Hendersons. They certainly look like Ivory and very possibly Hendersons. I will stick my neck out here and say that looking at the age and colouring of the pipes im 90% sure they have ivory mounts. Just because they are Hendersons does not mean they are top quality but certainly gives them a great chance of being excellent. I believe Henderson mass produced ...

Well I've looked around quite a bit for some decent instructions on making chanter reeds for highland bagpipes and so far i haven't found nothing (seems to me they are all secretive about highland bagpipe reed making). I've been wanting to make my own chanter reeds for quite a while. And some of the workshops for reed making are darn expensive, so expensive workshops like that are out of the ...
