Your only option is to get your trans built up to be stronger. You can have the 4l60e`s built to handle quite a bit of hp and torque.

I have an 01 1500 5.3 with the stock tranny which I belive is a 4L60E. As I`ve read from nearly every post in the past, mine does shift hard 1-2 and when I punch it from around 40 when I hit around 70 ish for the next shift, its REALLY hard and somewhat shakes my truck for a sec. I do plow with my truck and sometimes it will see some mud. I realize both of those things are harder on the tranny. So my question is, other than stock replacement,...

The transfercase came out of a `77 suburban. it is a model 205 and is gear driven. I have the adapter that is in between the trans and transfer but need to know exactly what is needed for the Transmission conversion.

I believe you`d need to change the 2wd output shaft to a 4wd shaft and get the adapter that goes between the transmission and transfercase and the coupler. What transfercase are you trying to put on this transmission? Call advance adapters. I`m sure they can point you in the right direction.

It`s the new factory fill for GM and its highly recommended I`d also consider Royal Purple Max ATF for your year. I had great results with it. Instantly saw better mileage and cooler temps towing and regular every day driving. It was worth the extra cost to me. Steven

well first you would have to cut a hole in the floor for the stick to come through, and also I think you would have to change out the transfer case and the the trans. Could be wrong but not sure. Someone should chime in soon...but when and if you do it for sure take pictures and good luck man!!! NICK

i just got my motor rebuilt after it went. im pushin about 300hp at the flywheel right now. i got new planetary gears, all new internals and clutches, new sun shield, vette servo. and some new pistons. paid 1700$ canadian. deffinatly want to make your trans better if your gonna be pushing anything over 285 i`d say. 4L60E is not the toughest trans around. good luck!

Stevens07 makes a good point. I was going to say it sounds like a U joint. But could be other items too. I dont think the clunk is the tranny.

You have to insert very well the filter, if not the filter can fall off inside the pan and the trans will be working without the filter. Do not use silicone in the pan gasket
