Fritz, rybka?? which one
Published (2009-12-12 09:45:00)
( Deep Blue was probably the best. Fritz was beaten by Kasparov, Deep Blue beat him. I also heard that there wsa cheating going on withthe Fritz-Kasparov matchup. Kasparov said that what he saw from the computer is beyond what a machine can do. There was something not right going on, so Kasparov just left in the middle of a game. I don't know much Rybka, sorry. ,)

SCID?

( Well, I have a database "Finished chess.com games". I start Scid, go to the File menu, Open that database, and then I use Tools -> Import File of PGN games to import new games. You've probably done the same thing, but imported them into some other database you opened previously. To start on a new database, use File -> New, then you can choose where it will be stored. ,)

I'm not up-to-date on recent versions of Fritz, but I think that the *main* differences between XII and its forebears have to do with the user interface, which has been completely overhauled. Versions 10 or 11 will certainly analyze and store your games, in any case.
On the iPhone-app front, I personally prefer Shredder to Fritz. I reviewed my favourite chess apps in this blog post ,...

I recently bought my first computer and subsequently decided to give chess a go. As a chess neophyte is there any software that you would recommend that is compatible with a Mac? I have Chessmaster 9000 which is pretty good. But since you live in the DPRK you probably can't get it.

It depends on which database you have open. When you start Scid, all that is open is the Clipbase, a temporary database that isn't saved.
You should probably make a new database \(under File -> New\), then you choose where it will be stored. Then you can import games into that. ,)
