I do not blog brag, but others may and I would not complain. I would support most any foray into science experimentation by others. But, if what you do is not peer or editor reviewed then it is just a blog.

First class company since I bought from them last in 04/05 ish. Not able to ship everything out of the US, which I was annoyed at. Their chemical quantities are great for home experimenting!

Hi, I'm making a photochromic leuco dye, specifically azobenzene. Can someone tell me the products of: C 6 H 5 NO 2 + CH 3 COOH + Fe C 12 H 10 N 2 + ? This is nitrobenzene added to acetic acid...then reduced by iron fillings. What else is formed other than azobenzene? Thanks.

Frequently, in industrial situations, you are prohibited from publishing your work. It is considered proprietary information. The number of signatures required from the corporation for an official publication is huge. Unless there is some advantage to the corporation (say publicity for a product), the request is normally refused.

Chromatography after filtering, allowing the tannins and other insolubles to fall out of the solution, and after a solvent extraction to remove the lipids?

Oh, I think you can also use HCl + Fe or Zn in this situation for reduction of nitro compounds..

No. Particularly, failed experiments are very rarely reported in publications. When one reads a scientific publication, results may seem straight forward and simple. Easy chemistry. Actually, this "easy" chemistry is often the product of several months of struggle in the lab to get the reactions to work properly, the stuff to finally crystallise after hundreds of trials... It is highly ...

Chemicals? A cheap balance, even a kitchen one would work decently enough. Maybe some test tubes, they always seem to come in handy.

You can make silly putty or something fairly similiar with silicone oil, something, and boric acid IIRC... elephant toothpase is a good one to demonstrate extreme changes in states of matter.. perhaps?

Try Google. Out of curiosity, what do you want the nitric acid for?
