Felker has a FTS-150 that handles 19"ers easily (20'ers with a little tilting of the tile as you enter the cut) for about $575...but that's a huge jump in your buget. How much do you want to spend? And what do you think about renting?...if that isn't to your liking, you can always sell a decent saw (like the FTS-150) and get a fair chunk back. Issues on big tiles? Lippage if the walls are wavy. Take a straight-edge to...

Hi Matt, I would think about renting a chipping hammer if you don't have one. HD has them. I would take the door off first and then chip the floor out, then work on the walls. Wear leather gloves and eye protection. Eat a good breakfast, maybe Wheaties.

I'm procrastinating I'm busy, that's no excuse, I know. We had a baby in September, and all. But I've been doing a few things here and there. I decided to not remove the ceiling above the tub, and I decided to put new Durock walls in only to the six foot level and leave the rest as it is. On the moisture barrier, I decided to have...

Today, I ripped out our fiberglass shower enclosure getting it ready for replacement with tile. The unit was flanged behind 5/8 drywall and screwed to the studs. I cut the drywall outside the flanges and the the three piece unit came out pretty easily. I plan on using the kerdi stuff when I redo it. Can I just fill in the wall with drywall or do I need cement board? This probably has ...

Hello all. I am a newbie but long time lurker. I am planning a tile project in the very near future after my hands heal (Carpal Tunnel surgery). So I have time to plan. The project is in my 1955 brick home in Chicago. The tile will be installed over concrete below grade in the basement. Recently (September) we had record rainfall which resulted in 6" of water in my basement. This ...

I am redoing a small shower with ceramic tile and a Noble built in niche for shampoo and soap. I am undecided on what waterproofing to use. Should I use polyethelene under the cementboard or use redgard over the cementboard. What would be the best waterproofing ? Thanks for the input. Tim.

Hey all, happy new year! Almost.. so for the new year I am going to start tiling my shower enclosure. Did the kerdi bit with a mud shower pan and curb. I also put in a niche. I have an idea how I want to proceed, but I thought I would ask the experts. I thought I would tile the niche first, Using quarter rounds to trim it out. Then I would tile the curb and again trimming it out with QR'ds. ...

We have a house built on a slab in North Texas circa 1950's. For the new year, we decided to start a new project. We're going to rebuild a shared bath for the kids bedrooms. It has a small tiled shower, two sinks and toilet cove. A tiled wainscoting currently wraps around the room. I ripped out the tiled sink and cabinetry yesterday and found something curious about the floor. The cabinet ...

The kitchen tile job is coming up using rectrified medium polished porcelains. I have heard so much horror stories and some good stories of epoxy grout. Do you recommend it? Can I screw it up using it the first time.. the tile is relatively smooth because of the polishing process, and should be easy to clean up. I can't find as good variety of colors though, I picked out custom's non ...

I have seen a few people asking this question, including myself and I didn't really find the answer. I saw some suggestions using sawsall. Well, I considered using the multimaster or simlilar tool, but decided against it since a. It would take too long b. too expensive, although probably nice to have. So, after some searching I came across toe-kick saw and found a cheapo version ...

Hi All, According to Schluter, you can tile immediately after setting the Ditra. That makes sense to me, however what if you wait - and don't tile immediately? How long until I can walk on the Ditra without worrying about breaking the mortor / Ditra bond? I would expect you shouldn't be doing anything with it in process of curing. I also used slightly modified versabond, so I'm concerned ...

Hi, Just found this forum - looks like a great resource!! I have a tiled shower (not a pre-fab) and at the base (floor and walls) the grout was coming off. So I decided to replace it - I found the matching color caulk. However after I took it off I realized the gap between the wall and the floor it uneven - some tiles are cut smaller. Along one wall the gap is very little and along ...

I'm trying to get some info and havind a hard time, so if anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be thankful. Basement/foundation walls are cinderblock, having some leaking issues I want to deal with later by escavating and doing right from the outside. For now, I'm thinking of drilling holes and filling them with concrete to give more strength to the walls. later want an ...
