Well I got hold of a g1. but I cannot even activate it because I dont have a data plan. idk what to do. Is their anyway to bypass the activation at the beginning? I heard sticking in a SIM card with a data plan then swapping it out for yours after its done will work? and whats t-zones? I heard about this and its like 5.99$. If I got that plan could I activate it?

If you have unlimited texting you should be able to use it all you want. I have been for years and never seen any odd charges on my phone. It does charge for each "message" as a text if you're not unlimited. You may want to know that it seems to me that all the messages don't send or receive if you are in motion. ie driving. I've never had a long conversation when sitting still so can't say if this happens...

Not necessarily... Sometimes, you may have to add additional plans and features to your account before the phone will work properly... I would check with T-Mobile first. I have unlimited messaging on my phone already, I'm just checking to see whether anyone has tried what I want to do before. I have an iTouch that gets me on Wi-Fi for free, and I don't usually see the point in having the internet in my pocket honestly.

I'm not sure if that is possible. Most data plans lump a lot of useful services in it. You can't get onto the internet without your phone receiving data to view it... T-Mobile offers $20 data plans and that is a reasonably fair price in the market today. Phones are cheap like they used to be because they aren't phones anymore. It's Jan. 5, 2009 and I just saw my bill that is due 1/25/09 and it is $540.89 Now lets talk about those pesky overage charges ..I never been late on a bill and never went over my mins. Now all of the sudden....the last past two months I'v been going over by 500-700 mins. at 40cents a min???? Charges and timing just isnt adding up. I call up and I get the same thing and I wind up eating a bill I know Im not making...OH YEAH!! BTW!!!,...

I haven't had t-mobile in quite some time but as I remember when visiting their site to pay my bill in the past, there was an option to check your minutes used and get an up to the minute detailed list of who you've been calling, when you've called them, how long the call was, all that good stuff you need to know when you call customer service and ask "Who, when, how long?, etc" It's good to have some ammo...

Ya, thats the ONLY thing I hated about the sidekick. You can't download your own ringtones and at 2.49 a pop, it gets expensive. The ringtones are short, but they are usually very good.

Yeah. Like everyone else said. They are a major rip-off!
