Hadassajones, I wish you well in recovery from many years of poor spiritual formation at the hands of your father. Hopefully his intentions were good and knowing that may help? I also hope you will be patient for the healing process to take place. I was raised in a very strict fundamentalist Pentecostal Church and from the Pastor on down to my family, have all left me with some serious emotional scars that for which I also sought and received...

Unnecessary work?
Published (2009-01-03 12:18:00)
I am working at a group home, which is necessary work, so I am needed sometimes on Sundays too. However, what if some work I have to do WHILE I am there on a Sunday isn't necessarily necessary? Bathroom cleaning every day, ok, I would say for hygiene resaons. But they want us to clean the residents' rooms every day. Ok, could say it's necessary, but is it? UI was working today so I made sure I cleaned well so tomorrow (Sunday) I...

I have someone who I am close with and really care for but this person lives in a very poor country and she works several jobs just to be able to help feed, and clothe her family and to send her siblings too school. Her father is long gone and her mother can't work so she supports them. Well, one of the things she does is private strip shows. Now, I understand the situation she is in, but I can't...

On Election Day, right after Obama was confirmed as having won the election, I got into a heated debate with a friend over why abortion is worse than the Iraqi War. I tried arguing that abortion is the intentional killing of innocent human life and that it was legalized murder, to which my friend (I cannot remember correctly) argued that the Iraqi War was no different. He also stated, I ...

Part One To my brothers and sisters in Christ. What will we do about a culture where sex and profanity permeates everything? Even some cartoons present sick, perverted and profoundly dysfunctional characters, supposedly, for "entertainment." If we believe in human dignity then we believe in human decency. Sadly, our entertainment has been corrupted by people who paid a lot of...

My boyfriend and I have been dealing with problems regarding Masturbation for some time now and we've promised God we would quit several times and have for periods of time but eventually give in and done it again. I made a promise to God that I'd sacrifice for a week, I know that may not seem like a big sacrifice to some, but it's what I promised. I lasted for 4 days, I didn't really masturbate...

What led me to post here is the "Holy Day of Obligation" or "Sunday Obligation" thing, but there are many other things the Church imposes on people the seems like what Jesus criticized the Pharisees for doing (making 600+ laws to th original Mosaic Law and 10 Commandments). It was as St. Paul explained in Romans 7:6-13, (and continued through ch 8:17) that the law produced in him sinful desires ...

A friend of mine excused his poor behavior by saying since he believes in God that means God backs him and since God backs him, he can do anything he wants to without fear of reprisal. Is this true? I personally don't believe it is, but I would appreciate your thoughts on it.

My aunt is visiting us (me and my parents) for a few days. Today (Jan 1) is a Holy Day. I am working from 9 to 4 so I went to church last night. That didn't work out well for my aunt as she was going out with my parents later and the mass was quite far away. I told her there is a mass today at 10, which I can't go to, but she could (I have been to that church with her before on other visits...

I for one see no problem with contraception that prevents (and does not destroy) a pregnancy. I am not in need of contraception now since I'm gay(not to be debated in this thread) but I've used emergency contraception before. When I was 15, I was raped. The next day I took a pill that made the walls of the uterus unfavorable for the egg to implant in to prevent a pregnancy from occurring. ...

Liguori's Scrupulous Anonymous November 2005 regarding "full consent of the will"........ For full consent to have been given, the sinful action has to be chosen precisely BECAUSE it is sinful, or the person doesn't care that the action is sinful. Does this mean that if we hate our sins involving grave matter, but commit them anyway out of weakness, that our sin is considered ...

I am a struggling Catholic who is transgendered. While this is a big part of who I am, it is not my total identity, I primarily consider myself a child of God. I have posted elsewhere in this forum and have received some kind, truly helpful suggestions for helping me on my spiritual journey, but I have also found a great deal of hostility and complete lack of charity on the part of some of ...

Hi all! This has become a stumbling block for me. Part of me is really interested in becoming Catholic because a lot of the theology makes sense, but the other part of me is terrified of conservative clergy. I'm having a very hard time differentiating what is peoples opinions and what is the actual teaching of the Church. I read somewhere that if a Catholic votes for a politician that ...

I would just like to throw this question out there to see what people have to say on the matter. For those who want to respond by saying that it is sinful because it is illegal (in most places in the US) and therefor breaking the law makes it sinful, please don't go there. It does not hold water with me that breaking the law is always a sinful act. You and I know that the law is not...
