How much safer is it?

I was taught 7%. Not enough, in my opinion, to make a big deal out of. A seat that's convenient to use is more likely to be used correctly every time. If it's causing problems, move the seat.

What did I do wrong? I tried to do a seatbelt install of a radian in my 2006 honda civic and couldn't get it tight enough. The seat slid all over the place. The buckle stalk seemed to be too long.

Here's a video as well. 03 manual says the same thing. In vehicles without rear seats, they provide a tether anchor for a forward facing seat in the front passenger seat. It is not on the floor, but at the bottom back of the seat.

Re: RN XT SL Install - Check Please

I am only 5' 5" and DH is only 5' 7" so neither of us is very tall. DD's Signo fits behind the driver seat just fine (about a 1/2" to spare) at a 35 degree angle, but I doubt you would be able to get the RN upright enough to fit behind the drivers seat. I'm so glad I have the RN this week. It's nice to have the time to think it through. I would like to leave DS in the center as long as...

Welcome to car-seat.org. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, knowing how Subarus can sometimes be tricky for installations, but sorry, it's not okay installed like that in the center using the "borrowed" outboard lower LATCH anchors. Borrowing has to be allowed by both the vehicle manufacturer and by the carseat manufacturer, and in this particular situation, you've got both Subaru and the Radian's...

Best thing I could think of anyways when I saw it the first time.

If the seat is correctly installed and used, moving it to the side is really not a huge deal

I don't have any experience with this combination, but you can have the buckle in the belt path. A trick you can try to get it more upright behind the driver's seat is to pull it out of the seat bight (crack) by an inch or so, then install it tightly while pressing down where the child's feet go.

My sister has an Evenflo Triumph Advance in her Sonata-fit greats and Miss S it. She *will* need at least one Radian to do a 3-across, in a few years hopefully. More than likely the EFTA will have to be taken out of the mix because it is a wider seat though.

middle of the Liberty is a non-standard position that may be used with flexible LATCH CRs (of course presuming the child restraint allows it, as it isn't the standard width)

I didn't look in depth at them, but from what I can see, the base seems to be 100% on the vehicle seat, in both directions; the top of the seat is in contact FF; all you're worried about with that is that there's a slight gap between the bottom of the seat and the vehicle seat, correct?
That's not horrible. It happens in a lot of cars with contoured seats with many car seats. If it really ...

There's nothing in the 04 owner's manual . In fact, it specifically says not to use a child restraint if possible in the front passenger seat because there is no tether anchor point.

Ok, first flip the front seats forward and scoot them up and look for a good spot to tether on the front seat track. It needs to be bolted to the floor and something that won't be affected when you move the front seat back into place. Find something to wrap the d-ring around, and then clip the tether to the d-ring with the solid metal part of the clip facing up.
Here are pics of the ...

Hi there. How much does your one year old weigh, and what seats are both kids in? Your one year old would be 500% safer rear facing, so provided they're under 45 pounds I'd make sure they're rear facing. If you want your kids safer, that'd be the first thing to do.
You have LATCH in both positions outboard in both rows. My LATCH manual doesn't tell me where the tethers are, ...

It might be a little upright for a two month old. Some two month olds can deal with that. Laine could. Otherwise it looks great! Nice tether spot and good tightness.
What car are you in again that allows center LATCH?
And of course, is the Signo next to it installed independently of the XT?

I prefer the ease of installing the Britax seats too. But the Radian will last longer both rear facing(more leg room, higher weight limit, taller shell), and forward facing (higher harness slots), and being passed to future children (has 8 year life and Britax has 6). Don't worry about the butt of the seat, worry about at the beltpath. I have a RF Radian in my 08 Sienna, and it does move a little...

Hi and welcome!
Can you tell us age, weight, and height of the child that you are installing this seat for? For older children (5ish months +) a rear-facing seat can be installed at a more upright angle, allowing more room front to back. The Radian can be installed as upright as 30 degrees (45 for a newborn.) If your child is a newborn, then you may have to move it outboard.
Do you...

It looks fantastic What a great angle! What vehicle is that?
Have you gotten on the floor and looked around at the base of the front seats for anything to loop the D-ring around?

Does it tighten if the child is not in the seat? I can't adjust the harness while a child is buckled in. Once I buckle them in, if it needs to be tighter I unbuckle them, do as many pulls as I need to get it tight enough and then rebuckle.
Then I leave the harness where it is and make very minor adjustments as needed.
I hope that helps. If that doesn't work there is something going on...

The RN fits great rear-facing in my '03 Malibu. I know the newer models are quite different though, so I'm not sure about those.

We usually don't require 80yos to be in highbacked boosters.
Check the manual.
