What seats are your kids in now? I'm assuming your two year old is rear facing? Have you got a lap belt only in the middle, or a shoulder belt there? I've got a 2001 Nissan Xterra and I've had three across several times back there. A Radian is definitely helpful. At least one. Do you have an infant seat already? Congrats. :-) Wendy

Convertible Car Seat help - urgent!
Published (2009-11-25 22:59:00)
hi there, I have 5 year old twins in Frontiers, so it has been a while since I've been shopping for convertible car seats. My best friend is returning from abroad next week with her 13 month old and I need to buy her a car seat! In the next few days so it gets here in time! In my day Britax rocked. Even as recently as last year when helping my SIL, it seemed everyone was raving about the Recaro Signos. Nowadays I don't even recognize...

three car seats in a car. new...

Well, new seats are cheaper than a new car. Even if you spend $250 a seat, you only total $750, and where can you get a car for that, know what I mean? I'd be looking into Radians. They are the narrowest seat on the market, and fit well from birth, and last a long time by height and weight both rear- and forward-facing. You can also look into a Coccoro for the little one.

WWYD? Regent VS Frontier HELP!
Published (2009-11-26 12:31:00)
I would get the frontier (with smaller kids, it's 9yr lifespan would be amazing)... I think the Regent would be overkill for a child who is only outgrowing the Boulevard at age 6. When her brother needs to go out of the boulevard, you can give it to him (so don't misplace the harnesses if she is using it as a booster before that) and buy her a dedicated booster... and then, when he's ready for a booster, switch them back so she...

Convertible Car Seat help - urgent!

I'd look at the Safety First Complete Air, the First Years True Fit, any of the Sunshine Kids' Radians, or the Graco My Ride. They'd all work very nicely. Some of the Radians have 45 pound rear facing limits, some 40. The Complete Air and the My Ride have a 40 pound rear facing limit. The True Fit has a 35 pound rear facing limit but a nice tall shell, so if baby is very tall but very skinny, it would be a good fit

Almost no states require children to be 4 and 40 to be in a booster. It's a really good idea. It's rarely the law.

WWYD? Regent VS Frontier HELP!

Have you looked at the Graco Nautilis at all. It fits slimmer/smaller kids better. Otherwise I would go with the frontier. As kids get older there isn't as much of the 5-point is always safest. In other countrys they rf to 5y or so and then booster. No ff 5-points. I am busy packing so hopefully someone else can point you to that info.

Graco My Ride 65
Published (2009-11-23 19:25:00)
Is the harness coming from below his shoulders? For rear facing it should be. Are you sure you have a safeseat, and not a snugride? 27 inches is only the 75th percentile for a 6 month old boy, so he really isn't "that" tall.

Sitter's car totalled
Published (2009-11-24 13:54:00)
Evenflo Triumph Advance? I used to have one and it was pretty easy to install. Are there particular reasons that it was difficult for the sitter to install (getting it tight, having to use locking clip, etc.)? I hope no one was injured in the crash.

Educate me about the Radian please
Published (2009-11-26 17:15:00)
From my experience, the rear facing boot makes it very hard to get my Radian installed less than 40 degrees, but it depends a lot on the make of the vehicle. I'm sorry but I have no experience with any of the vehicles on your list.

All but one position on the SS1/SnugRide 32/35 (2 on the SR 22) can be used in the car, including the fully up position. The SafeSeat is the discontinued older model. No difference except weight limit and covers. Not still under production. If you buy one it will be a few years old, and only have 3-5 years left on it most probably (possibly less.)
The SS1/SR32/35 does not tend to fit ...

2 Nauti's.
Easy breezy, done.
No funky rules, harnesses for a long time, tall top slots, works well as a booster for most kids.

What is your budget? And will she leave it installed or will she have to take it out at times and reinstall it herself?

Well, you can re-use the cover if you get the same kind, or recycle it into rags, or a quilt, or a purse... I've heard of all kinds of projects with covers. There are some recycling programs that accept car seats; call your local recycle center to see if they accept that kind of plastic or know of a place that does.
Otherwise, you should smash, cut, or shoot it up, and write "do not use" ...

I'm not sure. But, I had the pleasure of installing a RF combi coccoro on the captain chair in the middle row and it was AWESOME.
Are you looking to rear face or forward face them? Or, a bit of each. Do you already have the seats or are you just starting your search for a best fit scenario?

The wizard is crashed, right? I would just use the generations until you get the insurance thing figured out, provide of course he stays under 40 lbs. Can you do the install for the person using latch and seatbelt. Or maybe show her how to install the seat correctly and show her in the manual where it says not to do that? (Hopefully is says to use one OR the other.)
I would be calling ...

My friend had a 2 door Cavalier. She fit a Snugride and a CS in there with no problems. She also did a turbobooster, CS, and some 3-in-one (not the alpha omega, I can't remember the name of it). So she even got 3 seats back there. It is possible with the right seats. I'm sure you can figure something out with all the options you have.

We recently purchased one for DD to use at MIL's house. MIL has bad arthritis and carpel tunnel, so has trouble tightening the seatbelts for installing car seats. I bought this one specifically for the Sure Latch feature. It worked out great for us in that respect.
My DD is pretty petite and fits perfectly in the seat with room to grow. Our version is the 40lb limit and even with that, she...

You can get a generation 65 for $99 at BRU, it has 16 inch top slots, and a 65 lb limit.
The scenera does NOT have a booster mode, it rearfaces and forward faces, and your child is already essentially too large for it, as it only goes up to 40 pounds, period.
I really recommend the gen 65 in your situation. it fits your budget, your kid, and probably your vehicle, it isn't known ...

The True Fit could be easy to install. I think the My Ride is easy as well. What is your budget?

My dd is at the point where she needs the second slots in her keyfit with a cloth diaper, but her shoulders are only just above the bottom slot in a disposable. I decided to put the harness in the second slots and just make sure dd wears a cloth diaper when she rides in the car.

I don't know the shell height of the MR offhand, but I bet it's listed in one of the reviews on the car seat blog.

I am just wondering why you decided on the Marathon? In general, that seat does not have a very tall shell, or harness slots.
The Sunshine Kids Radians (many models available) have much taller shells with several harness slots, and tend to fit taller kiddos nicely. Maybe consider going with a Radian as your primary seat and a less expensive seat for your secondary.

The manuals for the Snugride, Triumph and Como all indicate to replace after any crash.
So the only thing to decide is if this was a "crash" or if it was more like having a shopping cart hit your car in the parking lot. Since your driver's door won't close properly, I would lean towards it being a crash.

What are your other kids riding in? It'll depend a lot on fit, as Audis are not known for their big and roomy backseats.
I'd probably go for a Radian, which is far narrower.
