Does anyone here use just a plain MacBook (2.4Ghz) to edit HDV video? Im looking to buy one, but wanted to here reviews first. How does Final Cut Pro perform on a MacBook? Thanks

Been lurking for a little, but this is my first post here... My HV20 is on its way. Looking forward to getting it and taking some sharp looking video with it. I'm also looking at getting the top of the line iMac to handle all of my digital pics and videos. Questions... 1. How easy is it to offload the video onto the iMac, massage the video, and then burn to a DVD? Can that all...

Hi. I feel like this has been asked before, but I've searched the forums and I haven't been able to find a definite answer to this question. Capturing 1080i50 (PAL) in Final Cut Pro 5. When using FCP5 on my mac, the only way I'm able to capture footage, is in Apple Intermediate Codec, without any device control. Is this really the only way?

Forum, The Color user manual shows that HDV is not on the list of working formats. Well, inspite ot this and the fact that others have been confirming that sad story, I'd like to hear it from you all here. Has anyone found a way around this? I'm working on a project right now that was shot on my HV30 at 30p/HDV. It loads in to color fine, except that it looks more like 4:3 as opposed ...

I take and edit short videos of my family for posting in the family blog. They're typically 5 minutes or so in length. Today I'm using an old Panasonic mini DV camcorder (standard def) but it's in the process of crapping out and I want to get an HD camera. I've settled on the HV20/30, which I will order this weekend once I decide which to get. My question relates to editing. I have a ...

Sorry for posting in the wrong subforum. Obviously new. When I export it to Quicktime straight from FCP, it just looks standard DV. Again. My preset for capturing is just "HDV" as it won't let me select anything else and work. And I'm filming in HDV mode, either TV 60 or Cine Mode, and export using the Apple ProRes 108060i. I know I've done no correction or editing whatsoever. But it just looks ...

Just scale the footage up by about 5-10%. In FCP double click the clip so it loads into the viewer. Make sure that Image and Wireframe is ticked in the drop down box above the viewer window and then grab the edges of the image and drag outwards until the edges disappear.

Hi Paul, A friend told me, that a lot of classical music is copyright free; since most of the composers are dead and can't claim their royalties from the grave. Makes sense, but I can't say for sure that this is true. Anyways, on his short film he used a Rachmaninov piece and it was excellent!

Ok, so I made a video in FCP in widescreen. It's been worked on and edited and exported as a QuickTime movie all in widescreen and put on a DVD. Come to find out today, the screen in which this project will be shown is a standard screen. Upon testing it today, my video doesnt show up right. Alot of video and titles have been cut off from what I think is mostly the sides. So here is my ...

Apologies if this isn't the right subforum. I've been searching the forums all night and most of today and haven't found a FAQ or thread that addresses this. It seems like a very basic question, yet there's no obvious help. I'm using a MacBook Pro (10.5.4) to run Final Cut Pro 6.0.4. The footage was shot on a HV30 in "HDV" mode which I surmise (from these boards) is 1080i. The problem...

Hello all, I need some help deciding what to do. I'm currently in the market for a new laptop for modile editing needs and live monitor for stationary shots. The problem is, I'm having a hard time deciding. I'm not too worried about cost, as both are pretty much the same.. Here are the two I'm going back and forth between... Sony Vaio VGN-AR790U/B - 2.5ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor - ...

Hello, I have been encouraged to buy the Canon HV 20, but before I do I want to make sure that it will be easily compatible with final cut express. Just capture? No extra software or difficult hook up situations? (I just returned a JVC hard drive camera because after three weeks of talking to support staff no one could figure out how to get it compatible with final cut express). Thank you ...

Hey all, I just wanted to outline a way to salvage your problem HDV footage and get it to look a little more filmic, all things considered. One of the earliest tests I shot with the HV20 was of an intersection at night with cars driving by. After de-interlacing, I noticed that the taillights and traffic signals looked really bad. Using basic steps in shake did wonders for the footage. What...

Thanks, Kevin. What I've found is much what you said, though Media Manager gives me a workaround (maybe) that lets me preserve my normal capture - edit - color - finish workflow. Delving into Media Manager while sober is daunting, but apparently turning my multiclip into a series of discrete clips by unselecting "include nonactive multiclip angles" is the current iteration of my test. I'...

It read the camera fine...I got to the capture screen...I hit play and capture now like I always have and it looks like its working....but when you hit escape a general capture error comes up...I ran searchs all night have not found a thing.
