Strobed BBall
Published (2009-12-02 15:08:00)
Joe, Yeah I try to get there at least 30 to 45 minutes early. I keep the B800's at full power every where as with mono strobes if you dial down the power your T1 will get much longer (which you don't want). I pretty much know that any high school I go into I will have an iso of 320 to 640 with an F stop of 2.8 to 3.5. That is guaranteed. bnorm, I pointed the 11 inch reflector strobes at a line just above the top of the key. And the 7...

Could you please explain a little about how to position your strobes for snowboard shots. do you try to raise them as high as possible or keep them low and aimed at hthe boarders faces? Also do you use any light modifier's or do you just shoot raw flash?
Also has anyone tried riding with all camera/speedlights/ light stands? Is it possible to do? to ride from location to location with all ...

So as many of you know, I bought two b800s as well as some other goodies in preperation for this year's basketball/wrestling seasons. Well I have been extremely busy finishing up football but the local team that I cover for the booster club had their annual scrimmage. This was my first time using the strobes in this gym, so I want some help on my lighting technique. Thanks all.

It varies from arena to arena. But I know at the ones I have been to has been around 1/250 5,6 ISO 500, I think. Ill have to check some of my shots.

many are shooting outdoor sports with 50D. the high-speed frames per second (fps) is great. I shot football all season with the 50D and 70-200 f/2.8L. Great combo. For soccer, you might want longer, but the 50D would still do wonderfully.

You get pretty good ISO performance from a 7D so you can shoot higher than you could with some of the older cameras but without knowing the lighting in your gym I could not tell you if a f4 and 3200/6400 would cut it. I would venture to guess that it would not. With a 2.8 lens you have to shoot many times at 3200 and even 6400 to get proper exposure at 1/500. Remember that you need to shoot ...

What I learned last year is.. basketball shots around the rim (if not all basketball) should be shot (or cropped if not shot?) portrait style because of the vertical aspect of the game. I think it would help if they were all portrait to not be cutting off players at the ankles.. but I wont' see basketball until Monday myself and I know i'll be rusty #2 I'd crop out player #25 since he's not ...

Great photos! Where are all the fans?
Are your shots right out of the camera or are you doing any processing to these?
