Flash Stand I just purchased a flash stand and I realize the umbrella mount to mount the speedlight onto is fully metal. I'm a beginner, so if i slide my flash over the metal then all the contacts will be in contact with each other on the bottom of the flash,, will that be alright? I really hope that makes sense thank-you ...

My StyleBX400 kit came with a 32" silver umbrella and a 32" white shoot through umbrella. What's nice is that for keeping it light, I can carry them with the two stands in a separate compartment in the very nice case Elincrhom included with the kit. All of their cases are exceptionally nicely made. But I think I would like to include one larger umbrella, I won't always want to bring along ...

Ugh. Knocked off chair, camera+flash went flash first into wall and off came the flash. Anyone had similar breaks, and know the costs? Also should I try direct to Canon or I can bring it to a store (I'm in Toronto, Ontario, Canada)? I bought this used from someone on POTN in the States. Kinda looks like I could just solder the wires, but try to superglue.. but that'd make for one real weak...

The manual for the 580EXII flash says the wide panel should be used for focal lengths under 24mm. Is there any differentiation between a full-frame camera (like the 5D) and a 1.6x crop camera (like the 40D?) The 580EX II covers 24-105mm focal lengths, perfect for use with the 24-105/4L on a full frame camera. What happens on a crop camera with the 17-55/2.8IS? The field of view of this lens on...

How do most professional studio photographers sync their strobes? Do they use radio triggers? If so, which brand is the most expensive?

Re: 580EX broken? Well, I've been fiddling with it all weekend (the flash...) and still no joy. Have tried it in Master, Slave and Off modes and still no sign of the 2nd curtain sync icon... Are there any custom functions on the flash that might have been set by the previous owner that would have this effect? Thanks all for your help ...

Hi Can anyone help? When I am using my 580II to photograph people I'm often getting OOF images. Initially I assumed that I wasn't focusing properly so I tested this by taking a shot with the flash and then take straight away without the flash. Each time it's taken without the flash it was in focus (although a little dark). I was using the 580II set on ETTL, on a 30D, with a 17-...

As some of you know, I had a set of Calumet Genesis 200 lights. I was using a synch cord outside with one, the other wouldn't fire using its built in slave mode. Today, I was using my B800 with CyberSync plugged into it and tried a B400 as well. It fired every time perfectly. Any reason why the B400 would fire in slave mode but the Genesis light wouldnt? Better slave mode? Is it the CyberSync...

Field report I think Nabil-A's idea is really brilliant. Too often I've been annoyed by the short Off-Camera Shoe Cord. I mean, it does what its name implies, but... I hope to answer some still open questions and to encourage to a small soldering adventure. I used an unshielded cable with 6 stranded leads of 0.226 sqmm cross section. This obviously is not standard and a little bit too heavy and...

Some of these systems use a TON of bulbs, and softboxes and umbrellas as well to soften it on the models. One for one I don't think they are even close to strobes, but if you check out the Rololight setup, each box I think holds 4-6 bulbs. Fluorescents are so energy efficient though that you are still only talking about I think 12-14 watts per bulb.

Wow, I knew it would be easy to setup, but not this easy. Took me literally a bit under 5 min to setup. What a difference from spending that amount of time just inserting rods into other softboxes. Here is a step by step for those interested. Oh, and to my surprise while opening my new B800, they also fixed the only thing I didnt like about their lights too. They replaced the wimpy 100 watt ...
