sizing images for view and printing
Published (2009-11-28 19:41:00)
Your threee most common print sizes will be 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10, with some maybe wanting to do a "full bleed" 8.5x11. Doing a 5x7 print will crop very little (off the longest dimension) and so is closest to your 2:3 sensor aspect ratio. The most severe cropping is done for an 8x10 -- an 8.5x11 "full bleed" is somewhat less cropped, again all at the longest dimension. One practical is to give them two sizes, a...

iViewMedia Pro (on Mac, not sure about PC) writes the IPTC straight into the CR2 file if there's no .xmp. LR will be able to read (most of) that. LR will not be able to read catalog sets and such stuff, nor iView labels and ratings. I usually select all images I want in iView, then right click and "open with" LR2. It will take LR a while to import a few thousand images though Use "import at existing...

PSE7 to CS3?
Published (2009-11-26 14:38:00)
Oh...I was just wondering because there are a lot of pirated copies floating around...some are even for sale on Ebay. And while I don't encourage pirating it makes no sense to buy pirated software when that same software can also be downloaded for free from so many websites. If its a private listing you should ask the seller to sign transfer of license form: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/152/tn_1528...nts/na_tol.pdf . That way you'd know...

Help with EXIF
Published (2009-11-28 18:38:00)
I use DPP and Photoshop, both programmes let me see EXIF data, DPP gives me far more than I'm ever going to want, but while PS shows me less, it's still more than enough. Saving processed images in TIFF form keeps the data intact.

How do you all make borders or frames when you are editing photos? I just
want a moderate black frame around the photo. I know this seems pretty newb
but any help is appreciated and Im sure this will be answered very quickly.

If my memory serves me correctly this camera is not supported under CS3 camera raw. This information is readily available on the adobe website.
You do have other options available to you. You can get Lightroom which is another expense. You can download the dng converter from adobe and convert your CR2 files to dng and then CS3 will read them. Look at the multitude of other RAW converters ...

I've never had a profile called " ACR". Just the profiles from when Adobe added support for my camera -- ACR 4.4.

I know this has been asked before but I can't remember the answer. Where
can I turn off the corrections that Bridge makes when I first open a folder
of pics? Not only is it annoying waiting for it to finish but I have no
idea what the original picture looks like.

I would suggest either Photoshop CS3 Studio Techniques by Ben Willmore or Photoshop CS3 One-on-One by Deke McClelland first. Only then move on to Martin Evening's book. I'm partial to the Ben Willmore book; the final chapter is an awesome capstone covering the entire image processing workflow in Photoshop.

A lot of printers struggle with true monochrome images. Using coloured inks it is very easy to get awful colour casts. The R2880 is the first printer I have owned that as standard produces a completely cast free black - every time. I don't know how this is achieved, but it is true that there is a B&W setting in the driver, and I'm not talking here of the "greyscale" setting, but a special photo ...

Roller and paper feed problems are well known issues with the 2400. You can clean the rollers a number of ways, including feeding a "cleaning sheet" through a few times or using a cleaning solution recommended by Epson. I bought a used 2400 that had this problem and cleaning resolved it. I will leave it up to you to do the research on Epson approved cleaning products and methods.

Not ever gonna downgrade my IQ like that. The 7D has opened a brand new world of resolution and IQ, not gonna throw that away for a few extra photos per card. I bought 2 16GB cards to add to my existing 22GB of cards for use with the 7D... as soon as prices drop again, I'm gonna buy 3 or 4 32GB 600X cards for my 7D.

Looks good Tony. With a little knowledge and patience using most any of the RAW converters one can achieve quality results.
Here's one from my '08 trip to Glacier Nat'l Park. Not necessarily a before and after but what can be accomplished from a crop from the original. These where processed via ACR and Photoshop CS3.

If you can consistently under expose than you can consistently expose. I've never subscribed to that theory.
But many do.

Are you trying to install from the disc or from a download. If the latter, install from the disc first and then update with the download. If installing from the disc is the problem, try installing this first
http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/sdl/data/dpp100-e.exe and then updating.

Have icons in Pictures (folder) that are a page with the blue PSE instead of thumbnails of the photos?? This is driving me nuts when looking for certain photos-- I have to open up PSE editor to see the photo.
