Abandoned Tractor + Star Trails...

Interesting. I think the Excavator, or whatever it is, is dominating the picture slightly. I'd have maybe tried to back up a bit and get the whole thing in, including the bucket on the end of the arm. But otherwise it's not bad at all. I quite like the way the trails are brighter one end than the other, giving a good idea of the direction of movement. (Assuming you're in the northen hemisphere that is?!)

I think boosting the saturation was a good idea... the colours really make it interesting.

Moon Halo
Published (2009-11-29 04:29:00)
Took a peek outside this evening and saw one of the largest halos around the moon I've ever seen. These pictures below are at 12mm and 10mm!! First is 12mm, 15 Seconds and cropped to a square and resized. Second is the same but at 10mm and 30 seconds.

And, if we're in show-off mode, I'll post one of mine through a 300 mm lens from Friday night. Use the most lens you have. Above a couple of hundred mm you'll start to see individual features clearly.

"The "heavensabove" website tells you the times..."
Visited the site but I cannot figure out how to enter my own Lat/Long. All it wants to show me is 0 deg N 0 deg W. It must come over southern England at some time?

Sweet - very nice.
We have 1 thing in common, both looking "up".
Seriously, I can use your shot(s) as reference to which of my shots are "best" .
My " best" shot a few hours ago via T1i and 55-250 kit lens, then the clouds came in:

I like the second image... there's so much detail there. I think that's
near the area where they did the LCROSS mission recently.

These are remarkable and novel shots. Please tell us more: telescope, exposure, ISO etc. Not much turbulence for so low on the horizon so I'm guessing you were up in the mountains somewhere. Thanks for showing these.

I'm uploading photos right now. I ran outside to see if they could really be seen. Took my kids. We sat out there looking in the direction we were told (N, NW) tonight and waited. Well, a couple minutes went by and I thought, "well, maybe not. Maybe we just can't see them." But the website said the space station would be brighter than Jupiter. Well, To the South of me was Jupiter and it ...

Hi All
I understand the moon phases - but using normal observation, what makes the moon look larger and more orange some days than on others? Is it just an illusion?
Is there a way of predicting when one of those 'big orange' moons will appear (assuming a clear night of course)?
Thanks

These didn't come out as well as the others, but the Cocoon one is still neat I think.
