you only purge/clean the res and not purge the whole system? I was under the impression you need to drain everything every so often (depending on many factors of course). If only the res, that would be about 1/9th of my system and definitely easier.

what meters for hydro? -...

Hell yeah, I admit it is nice to be able to do that. If you've got the flow Earl is completely in the right, a continuous meter is pretty smooth. Stay away from the tri-meters, as they tend to be problematic, as well as pricey. The Milwaukees as suggested would be a good route, otherwise I think you can get a Hanna continuous at bghydro for about 80.

What exactly is in tap water? Everything you don't want to be. From Flouride, to chlorine. Tap water is soooooo bad for the osmotic capalaries in a plants roots, that is if you are on treated water. Well water in most places is pretty good actually. You get a lot of copper and other trace elements from well water. You should break down like I did and buy a $89 Reverse Osmosis filtration system that will pump out 150gpd if you need it to....

One statement, Don't be an eye sore. If you don't give them a reason to come looking, they wont. Your, "friend", will have to find altrnative meants of heating and cooling the house, other than the central heat and air. If you are super meticulous and careful, you can heat with small open face propane heaters in the coom, also adds CO2. you can cool individual rooms in the summer with window air ...

I couldn't imagine having to maintain 8 individual resevoirs. Sure you can choose not to have them share a resevoir, but i dont see the pro. Less hose maybe. I check my PH daily, and purge and clean my resevoir weekly. I couldn't imagine doing that times 8. I guess it depends on your growing method.

I am able to get my pH very stable for days. I use RO Low nutes loads and I only adjust in very small amounts with very fast accurate meters. When I add nutes to RO my pH is usually about 5.03 I add just enough barricade to bring the pH to 5.5 about 1ml in 20 gallons ! I use an eye dropper to change the pH

The next step is to drill a 1/2' hole in the bucket About 2 inches above the bottom of the bucket is usually about correct and will give you a reservoir that will last a couple of days without starting root rot.
