Some thoughts on the upcoming CT Scan: It will be nine weeks since the last scan, about the same as the one before that. What we learned last time was that absent aggressive chemo the tumors will run rampant through my abdomen. (The weeks between the last two scans I spent on vacation at the end of the Gemzar segment of my treatment.) I feel like the current clinical trial has done it's part in keeping the tumors at bay, just going by...

coachxc: Where are You located - country? Do some internet searches - there are main stream labs that will allow you to schedule and get lab work done at reduced prices (cash). Yes, you have to ask for the right tests but some of the lab sites actually help you with a "menu". Do you have a Primary Care Dr to discuss it with? No matter what _ DO NOT IGNORE or DELAY

Floyd, You are a courageous man. I am praying for you. Not far from you in NC, and was in Charlotte Saturday all day shopping. I wish I had words to say but I don't. In watching my pastor and his battle and watching this very upclose I have learned so much from these post and him. Just wanted to encourage you. God is aware. KB

Adagio, Thanks for your response. I know I'm grasping at straws, as still unable to accept this diagnosis. We definitely want the best quality of life for him and do not want him to suffer at all. I'm wondering based on your knowledge and seeing all the posts (I haven't looked at too many-it's too upsetting to me....I just keep bursting into tears) what your opinion is on how much time someone has whose cancer has not...

Missyone So sorry to hear of your dad's diagnosis. My father in law is in his 22nd month since diagnosis. He did the whole chemo thing for about 18 months and whilst I am sure it prolonged his life - he hated every minute of going there each week, having the blood tests, needles etc. So it is not the length of time that your dad is here for it is the quality of that time, be with him as much as you can, do as many things with him whilst...

My Mom - My Hero
Published (2009-12-07 22:47:00)
Hello to all, I was reading through the forums tonight and just decided I wanted to reach out to those affected by pancreatic cancer. My mom, Debi (64 y.o.), was diagnosed in September of this year with end stage IV pancreatic cancer... we are all devastated. She has and is always the strength in our family. To be honest, I truly don't think I have run from anything harder in my whole life. She is my bestfriend. I keep wondering how to...

Dear reader, Last Tuesday my mom is diagnosed most likely pancreas cancer with dissemination into the liver and aorta. We have already asked a second opinon so that is why I have the CT scan with the pictures with me. http://yfrog.com/2rmama1ij http://yfrog.com/jpmama2j If someone here are able to read the pictures and can give me some info I will be...

Missyone, I am so sorry to read of your Dad's diagnosis. Unfortunately no-one can say how much time anyone has. My Mum had six weeks, my Dad had six months. The only thing that I have personally seen is that when the ascites needs intervention frequently, then time is short. My Mum was stoic and we were able to make the most of the time we had, we laughed and we cried and concentrated on keeping her pain at bay. My Dad on the other hand...

Hi Floyd: Of course I knew you would still be here. (and Lucy too I'd bet) You have a car auction coming up in a couple of weeks, and more importantly a grandbaby in May! I too have a lot to look forward to. We are heading out to see Mom in Colorado on the 21st. She feels so great being on her Decadron steroids. As you have said whatever makes you feel good. We continue to plan trips which is always so great too. I wish you and your...

Hi, I'm an athlete in the mid-20s and I've been experiencing some strange things over the last few months that have me worried. I don't have health insurance and still have medical debt from an accident I have last year, so I don't have the ability to go and get expensive scans and things right now. I just wanted to get some insight from others. Back: I've had a weird back pain in my mid to lower back mostly on the...

missyone, As you can tell from the many posts here, this is a tough diagnosis, especially at your father's age. Knowing how badly you want his life extended, I would suggest that the quality of life over what time he has left is an important consideration. Believe me, I have put hours and hours of thought into the decision I must make when the tumor invades my liver. I have never found a ...

Hello Floyd, There is nothing I can say to make the news any easier to hear or face. I used this forum while my husband was ill, and the support was over whelming, and sometimes you just need to talk. Please know that there are many people who are praying and know what you are going through.

Maybe you could contact an oncologist in your area about getting some lab work done, at least check out your CA19-9 levels. Good luck.

Thanks for writing, Tara. You are fortunate to have such a wonderful relationship with your mom, and I know thankful she is from her end. We sufferers get so tired of being sick, run down from the drugs that are there to help us, unable to put in a decent days work or even eat a decent meal. Sometimes I too wail away late at night - it's a cleansing. Usually I'll try to accomplish some task ...

Thank you so much for writing that. You really summed things up beautifully and it was really comforting to read. You should think about submitting this piece to NPR or Common Ties (commonties.com). So many people could benefit. _________________ There's a crack in everything - that's how the light gets in. - Leonard Cohen
