In the meantime Scuba - and I truly empathize because we both have "undiagnosed" children - know that all the Speech Path's, Physios, etc. that I've spoken with have told me (umm...several times over ) that the strategies they use to do "therapy", etc. will be the same, with or without a diagnosis. Now at first when they would tell me this, I'd become infuriated (inwardly, LOL) and think "It DOES make a...

Fencing would have qualified this year under the Home Renovation Tax Credit if not. Do you have someone prepare your taxes for you (i.e. H&R Block, Liberty)?? Do you receive a DTC for your child? I know we were able to claim computer equipment purchased specifically for Matthew's needs a few years ago on our taxes. If it is documented that he is a flight risk and you receive the disability tax credit I don't see why not, but you...

I just want to post about how amazing my kid is and hear how other kids on this board are amazing. Having special needs has it ups and downs and lately when I having been posting here it has been about the downs. Here are the "ups' for our family. My daughter's development in the past 8 mths has been above and beyond normal expectations. She is so funny and some of her observations and statements can cause unbelievable laughter....

uh, that sounds exactly like my oldest at that age. It used to be that we couldn't have birthday parties at home without it being a disaster because she had everything played out in her mind and it was a meltdown if it didn't. I remember when we were moving, I had an end of year party for her so she could say goodbye to her friends. She spent almost the whole time in her room screaming. Having friends over to play never went well....

My dd does not have ASD but freaks if there is even a slightest change to her routine. For example, she used to walk to a different room for science, that got change to the teacher coming to them. THAT ruined her entire day! The work was the same, the classroom was a familiar one (it's the room she spends most of her day!) but THAT teacher didn't normally teacher her there. 2 weeks later dd is still struggling with the...

I would have said something, but I think that all of you know by now that I'm just like that lol. I have been in situations where I've heard people saying such and such, and I've had to step in and explain to them they are wrong...this is what's going on, this is how it is...and then I try to even make them empathize by giving examples they can relate to. I'm not mean or rude about it, I just point out that they really...

With regards to the home renovation tax credit, the time limit is done plus we have already maxxed out on that tax credit by getting a new deck, drain tile, heating system, windows, siding, etc. We have finally done some improvements on our house for the 1st time in 10 years. I do receive the DTC for my son. We have a really big yard and my son loves to sit right by the road and watch the cars and trucks - he is getting more daring each year...

A diagnosis is merely a statement that a person's symptoms(including test results) fit within some particular range. It is always subject to change, especially with children. Symptoms are relative also - a symptom can be mild in one person and severe in another. A diagnosis today give us a name to attach to a person. Useful in some ways and useless in others. In order to help a person we need to know (sometimes) more details about what...

It's hard for me to give advice because my son is much older so instead of throwing the tantrum he debates and bugs and keeps at me until the "wrong" is turned into a "right". This is a big thing for him. It can be as little as I called something a "package" when it was really a "box" (OY...he went on for days when I referred to his box of candy as a package of candy) or as big as how something...

So, some of you may remember me popping in and out of this board because of concerns with our 7 year old ds. His pediatrician diagnosed him as ADHD in Nov. of 2008, based on a form filled out by us and his school. It was a diagnosis that we were never comfortable with. Number one, because it wasn't thorough, and number two, because we thought it was only a piece of the puzzle. With a ...

We're still awaiting our testing for DS1, we should receive it by June but I'm not crossing my fingers. In the mean time he has some behaviours that I just do not know how to deal with. For example. If he anticipates something happening a certain way, and then it doesn't he FREAKS, full on freak out that can take over an hour to calm down. Or, if he has in his mind the way he wants something ...

I was visitting the inlaws yesterday and listened to them talk about some of the children who attend the same school as their children. The comments and phrases they were using were very offensive to me as a mother of a special needs child. They are not accepting of differences at all and were so quick to label these children. Throw in a few comments about what they assume the parents are ...

I posted many months ago about a Dr. too busy to give test results. Well it gets even better. It has been exactly 6 months since my daughter's MRI. Do we have results yet? A big fat NO. Ok...so I don't know where to start lol... His hearing sucks, he is getting tubes put in his ears and likely having adenoids removed at the same time because of sleep apnea (I didn't know he had it, the ENT told me what to look for, and yes, he has it) His TSH lvls are high (thyroid hormone) so he just started medication for that today. And I'm actually surprised at how relieved I am!!! I thought I'd have more mixed feelings...i.e. this rules out ASD, but should I still be worried?? KWIM? But, no, I'm just VERY relieved and happy! Anyway, this is not "it" and once again, we're back to...maybe there is no specific "it"...just plain old anxiety. LOL. Everyone agrees on the anxiety part. *big sigh of relief*

DD's teacher has asked me to indicate what things I'd like added to DD's OSR (Ontario Student Record).
