I was wondering if anyone knows what synth is used in the beginning part of "It will be a Good Day" from the Yes CD called "The Ladder"? It's like a pad I guess, but it has an almost "sample and hold" kind of thing going on. It's hard to describe what it sounds like, but must be some cool kind of modulation in there, maybe someone knows how to fake that with something like Wusikstation or...

This is in reference to using spectrum analyzers and waveform viewing plug-ins or tools. I think I'm at the point where I would like to have a visual point of reference for what I think I'm hearing. I know that Voxengo's span and Cakewalk's resident analyzer are available but I fear I do not have enough background to interpret what I'm evaluating as a waveform. I know the simple stuff like ...

Even the Ozone-Izotopists state "don't master your own mix". ... But here's how to do it anyway?! Etc. What makes mastering someone elses job anyway ... seeing I enjoy staring at waveforms and experimenting with the art of mastering. (What computer geek-musician would eschew mastering) ... Like, mastering is a job for a research scientist! ... Like, I better not mix my ...

Well I went into the music store today and had a listen to a few monitors with a song of mine. The purpose was to look at what kind of differences good monitors get you. The main two I compared were the KRK RP5s and the Legacy ASM5s. KRKs: I found my drums to be not entirely punchy, but these monitors had great mid range response. I could hear the harshness of my Tascam US-122 and my ...

getting the kick and bass to work together is something I've been trying to improve on for ages.I was wondering recentley how much high you get the bass above the kick ? If the bass's second harmonic is pretty much as strong as the first, does this mean you can cut from there ? EG.My bass has a fundamental of 60 Hz.The kick is also peaking in this area. Can I cut the bass from 120 Hz and still ...

Dear Folks, I'm trying to program the type of rhythm-section from the Rock 'n' Roll era of the mid to late 1950's you can hear on many tunes of that time. Many of the songs from back then are excellent for Jitterbug Dancing. As I suppose it's too abstract and general to ask 'what makes a rhythm danceable for old-time Rock 'n' Roll social dancing'? Maybe focusing on a particular song or ...

To get an authentic 60s sound have all your takes done in mono and distorted. The more distorted the better. Also use the Isotope vinyl in abundance. If you can use only spring reverbs. Do not use a multiband of anything. Use only EQ that adds lots of distortion. IM distortion is most important. You should setup your gear so nothing above 15 khz is reproduced. Your best bet for media ...

A few weeks ago I posted my back of the napkin plan for buying panels and traps to treat my barren spare bedroom. On advice of forum members (what else?) I tried my hand at DIY. Although self-taught at the guitar, I am not a big DIY'er. I was a bit intimidated, but I got through it with a can do attitude. Here are some pics of my traps , made with 1x3 boards, drywall screws, ...

Hello there, This topic doesn't sit comfortably in this particular forum, but its the closest match I could find. Feel free to move it if there's a closer one. I'm engaged in an Internet musical collaboration group and we are seeking a cross-platform sequencer software in order to standardise across the board. We use a range of operating systems, Windows 2000 Pro , Windows XP Pro, Mac ...

Hey everyone. I have a dumb question. I am finishing up a project, a four-song EP. I know you're supposed to send it off to get mastered, but with replication costing so much, we just cannot afford it. So unfortunately I had to do the best I could and master it myself. So my question is, once all the music is set and I'm ready to send it off, how should I go about doing that? Is there ...
