starting with SHS7 cakewalk decided to make SHS more "beginner oriented" and they removed a lot of the functionality that SHS had. not being able to resize the tracks below that (quite large) minimum was one of the changes they made to the GUI to make it more "user friendly" you have to upgrade to Sonar SE or PE to get back that functionality.

MIDI delay
Published (2009-11-28 00:00:00)
Sorry if this is an exhausted topic folks but this is bugging me. I've got Home Studio 7XL and this week installed Windows 7 32 bit. I also bought a new Motu Fastline USB midi interface because the M-Audio Midiman 2 x 2 that I've bee using previously isn't supported in Windows 7 and M-Audio have no plans to release a driver in the near future so I got fed up waiting! ...

Slowing recorded riff tempo to...

Don, I try to get the Project BPM as close to the actual tempo of the song as I can. This way, it's easier to get the measures in the project to line up with the audio track. Select (ALT drag) the passage you want to copy. Copy and paste it to a new track. Enable Groove Clip Looping. You will probably need to adjust the clip at this point. If you started with a four measure clip at 4/4, make sure it shows 16 beats in clip (as an...

writing music with home studio
Published (2009-12-02 00:00:00)
folkie I am having a problem manually writing on the staff with Home Studio 9. When I change a note duration, i.e. from quarter note to eighth note, the program makes other changes automatically to meet the time signature. With this I am sometimes unable to write what I want to appear. Is there a way to disable this so the staff will read exactly what I enter? No and the newer versions of Home Studio or Sonar are...

we'll need a lot more info on what you're doing. what drums are you talking about? SI Drums from SHS7XL? do you have it inserted as a softsynth? are you dragging MIDI loops to a MIDI track? give us as many details about what you're doing and whats not working that you can - we can't see what you see.

SHS4 and 6 did allow SYSX messages, but I'm unsure if SHS7 does. hopefully someone else will have the answer for you.

Beagle +1 for groove clips. FWIW, there's a feature request that sonar add "varispeed" as a function. varispeed does exactly what you're asking... Sorry, Reece, but "varispeed" won't do exactly what he's asking...Varispeed (in its true form) will alter the pitch with every alteration of speed just the same as changing speeds on a turntable or ...

that's quite a different "thinking outside the box" kind of question! I've never heard of anyone wanting to do that before. it's certainly possible, tho, but I'm not sure exactly what to do. my initial thought would be to use a CAL script to change the MIDI events from CC64 to NOTE 56 (or whatever the note is, I'm not sure that's right for kick). However, I don't think that SHS7 supports CAL,...

you need an INS DEF for the VA-7 in order for the specific patches for it to show up in the MIDI note names in PRV.

you can use the scissors tool in the track view of the MIDI track you dragged the MIDI loop onto to cut the MIDI loop. the snap to grid settings will dictate where in the loop you cut. you can drag it simply by clicking and dragging it.
