cakewalk vs audacity
Published (2009-11-12 00:00:00)
cakewalk is a much more complicated program than audacity. audacity is actually a wave editor where cakewalk is a sequencer. those actaully are very different things. you need to see if your L1 Tonematch module has ASIO drivers available from their website. download the latest drivers from their website, install them and then try switching to ASIO. if that doesn't work, switch to WDM, then...

Repeatable Music Creator 5 crash...

MC 5 is not 64-bit compatible. Although some folks have gotten it to work, some of the software synthesizers refuse to cooperate. Which soft synths were you using at the times of the crashes?

There ARE a few topics on the BOSE forum and people had similar problems. Between this forum and that, maybe I'll find a solution.

USB is pretty good...so is firewire. I'd say you'd be safe with either. IDK about the express card for audio.... I have not heard much about them.

>> I suspect that the MS GS Wavetable is actually faster than TTS-1 and since you're in MME driver mode you have no latency compensation available. Yes could be, good point. There are 2 closed hi-hat "ticks" before both guitar tracks are playing. So I suppose when I remove these ticks (all tracks start simultaneously), the guitar track with TTS output should sounds later than track with GS output. Just a...

MC video tutorials
Published (2009-11-08 06:44:46)
Thanks Greg. I took a quick look at the Cakewalk channel at YouTube but didn't see much for MC. The few videos I did watch were more marketing oriented not "how-to" oriented. I was looking for the "how-to" type. When I look on the net, I don't find much "how-to" vids for MC. Any other places to look?

Composing on Music Creator

Try the Yellow Tools Independence Free VST. This is a free version of their (much dearer) rompler, but includes some reasonably good acoustic guitar patches, particularly for picking. Strumming is not so good though.

that did it beagle. I am content now. My goal was simply to get two guitar tracks and a bass up and running to record and playback. I think I got a handle on the audio tracks for live instruments...... still dont think I have a good conception of what to do with the MIDI tracks and Sound Creator but will try to get familiar. For now just glad to get my guitars playing...

Published (2009-11-11 12:18:25)
Hi Steve, I received the Axiom 25 that you sent, looks like it is based on the Axiom 49 preset, some of the diference between the 25 and 49 is that the 25 does not have the 9 slide controls so there should be a way to use the 8 rotary controls in the Ax25 to control the mixer or the volume-pan-velocity in each track. I have all the transport controls working except [Stop/Fast Forward...

1. I am mainly needing this software to mix my own music as I am a professional entertainer, can this software be used for that purpose? Yes. Everyone here uses it for that purpose, as well as recording. 2. I need info on how to fade in and out, blending tracks together, how to add sound effects ect. Blending tracks together? Once you record ...

In my youth, I recorded my music via a four-track. Then I moved on to ProTools Digi001. Well, I've recently dusted off my gear and have purchased MC5. I have an old PC I wanted to use: Pentium 4 (2.8GHz) 1GB PC3200 (400MHz) RAM Windows XP SP3 (32-bit). I also purchased the Alesis GuitarLink (1/4" to USB) cable. My questions are: 1. Will the PC I mentioned be decent enough to do some ...

64bit op system (Vista MC 5 is not compatible with Vista 64-bit. That may have a little to do with it. There was a thread recently about that and a Cakewalk guy had some tips; I'll see if I can find that thread. why would you want to do that? if you're not using sonar/MC but you're using the softsynths just leave them there and they don't cause any problems if they're not being used. they take up a little hard drive space, but that shouldn't be a problem - if it is then you need a bigger hard drive anyway.

There are literally hundreds of sites where you can find free samples/ sound effects/etc. Just do a web search for "free samples" or "free sound effects", you will be surprised the number of links. Later Albert

Hey Steve or anyone who might know , in SHS7XL I click on ( insert ) then ( Rewire Devices ) and I see Project 5 version 2 . If I click on Project 5 Version 2 what will happen ? Does that rewire a track over to Project 5 ?

According to tech support MC5 doesn't support surface control, you have to upgrade to home studio or sonar

Drums are MIDI..... so you will need to work the tutorials on inserting a soft synth (#8 IIRC) also see my web site for some plain English instructions on working with synths and I have a specific section there on setting up the DRUMS for sound. Your inputs and outputs to the soundcard are very important. Follow this info and come back to ask more questions if this doesn't work....

Kevin - I really, really, really think you need to get a new hard drive for your computer. it really appears that your hard drive has become corrupt and the quicker you deal with it, the fewer headaches you will have. I hope you've backed up all of your data (especially your cakewalk projects) already!

hmm...SORT OF...LOL MC5's GUI and workflow are restricted and Sonar's is not, so there will be a learning curve moving to the different interface. that wasn't true for MC4 and below because they were the same, but MC5 and SHS7 changed to a more "beginner's interface" while sonar is advanced. basic functions will still be in the same menu places, softsynths and FX ...

1. Yes. Depending on your sound card, you may have a lot, I mean a lot , of latency, when you hit the key and the sound doesn't occur until 1/2 to 1 second later. 2. Yes. 3. Yes. It would be easier to clone the track, no pasting required. I have done that myself, cloned then changed the clone's patch. You can do it as many times as you like, I think MC 5 has a 128-MIDI track limit....

Anywho looking to get back into music (went to college for it about 10 years ago since I played guitar) Sad to say ended up in Information Technology. Although not all bad its not really what I would like to be doing. I'm Now older and looking to make a career change. I thought would start ...

My integrated sound card has a little bit too much latency. That's an understatement! If you can find an express card with good specs that supports ASIO drivers, that would be a little quicker than usb, but I don't think you could hear the difference. Most of the folks here in the MC forum use an external USB device with zero or almost zero latency. Do not get...
