EGR Removal / Steel fuel rails

I remember that the old nylon rail had a ground wire up by the P/S pump that they just cut and left connected to make the conversion faster. That leads me to believe that the rail is grounded, but don't quote me on that. If you do cut it and have a starting problem after wards, then that is what I would suspect and you'll have to find another way to ground it. It should not be too hard to lift the rail. Just a couple of hold down...

Before you resort to an impact wrench, let the plug well soak in PB Blaster penetrant overnight. Always pull the plugs from a cold engine, and torque to 13 ft/lb. Once you remove the plugs, you might want to replace them with a new set of ACDelco 41-987's from www.rockauto.com .

I´ve checked it with a mirror and a flashlight. It looks like it´s the crossover that leaks but it may as well be the corner of the top (headgasket)!!! It´s hard to see because the drip is from the "tap" on topcorner but it looks wet a little bit further up. I started it cold and it started to drip immediately, thats why I hope it is something waterpump related thing. /Staffan

Remove the strut tower support and coil pack. Get yourself a 7/8" crowsfoot wrench (3/8" drive), a mess of 3/8" drive extensions, a universal joint, and a good ratchet. You may have to move the coolant lines a bit to get access. It's tricky. But with a little patience, a few band-aids, and if worse comes to worse, a little penetrating oil, it's possible. If you want more access remove the rear cam cover....

I don't see how the 2000+ Northstar was improved that much. Mine blew a HG at 54k miles, and the water crossover was leaking. I believe the pitch for the headbolt was changed slightly, and again in '03. From what I have read on these forums, only 2 or 3 '03 Northstar's have blown a HG.

I read the tips section I noticed Rangers comment on the fuel system recall involving newer steel fuel rails. My question is how do I remove the bracket without fear of combustion? I really don't want to get that bracket hot by using a saw or a grinder to remove it out of my way... Has any one figured out how to get the EGR off when theres steel fuel rails? My '99 STS overheated again today. It did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. When I checked the oil it was 3+ quarts low so I changed the oil and put in some fresh Dexcool. I drove it a few times since then with no problems but only for a couple of miles around the neighborhood. This afternoon I drove it 20 miles into Louisville and it overheated a couple of miles from my destination so I ...

I just replaced my front/left coil pack on my 2000 Seville, this solved my misfire problem. I wanted to check the plugs to make sure none were fouled by the bad coil. The first two plugs came out without much effort, very little force needed to turn them out. The third plug would not budge, so I torqed a little harder, still didn't want to turn. Not wanting to damage the threads I gave up and ...

I'm getting exhausted!! I found new/ used vacuum parts for TB area. No change, but now I can adjust my ISC (0.60 gap). But, warming up the engine I also figured to see if there was air in the coolant system. I kept the tank cap off for a bit. The car got hot driving around the neighborhood yesterday spewing out the little hose. The car did cool down to 117.?? Today, the fans didn't turn ...

Not too long ago I noticed coolant smell in the car after driving 15-20 min. The carpet on the passenger side is a bit wet also. Is this 100% symptom of a bad Heater core? I just want to make sure I don’t start taking everything out to change the core and find the problem somewhere else. I’ve read it’s a 4-5h pain to change it. Thank you!

I have a 96 SLS with the 4.9 Northstar with 40K on the clock. I just replaced the alternator and battery with a red top. The problem I'm having is after I leave the car sit idle for a week it's stone cold dead. I'm not throwing any codes. I show no draw when the car is off along with my Tech II showing no charge system faults. I've checked all the relays, fuses and grounds along with wiring ...
