Flaky Ambit modem?
Published (2009-11-23 11:45:00)
Well I had the delight of calling "customer service", who after waiting 20 minutes to talk to someone then decided to put me on hold while my details loaded and probably take his lunch break. I gave up after waiting another 10 minutes for him to return. Why are these people such turkeys, do VM realise how much damage they do to their customers and reputation? Anyway after redialling, waiting another 20minutes I got through to...

It is just funny discovering how VM don't care about devices. I even don't wont say every children from the street have full access to this cabinet. LOL. FIBER OPTIC YEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Broomhill, but aye. It can be hard to remember which aspects of the various naming conventions are useful and which are now just historical artifact. I am always forgetting that there were 10Ks deployed before 50Mb rollout, because I've tended to lump them together with the Motorola BSRs generationally. That, and what appears to have been the "rolling over" of any pre-50Mb capacity improvements into the 50Mb rollout plan...

Downstream/Upstream Power Levels
Published (2009-11-25 21:45:00)
Okay, so how often do virgin check the newsboard as i posted my complaint/problems 2 days ago and still no response to mine or any of the other posts from other people that were posted around the same time. Virgin are really starting to **** me off and am seriously considering leaving not only because of the reliability but also because of the customer service. To be quite frank it is SHOCKING!!

You gotta laugh at VM's capabilities. There was an outage in the GU4 area (Aldershot). This is what the incident web page says:
Placename Aldershot
Detailed Description
Customers in the Great Yarmouth GU12 area may currently be experiencing a loss of their services. This will include broadband Internet, digital TV and telephone services. Our engineers are currently ...

It's a very difficult problem and is what the majority of threads are about. The first port of call for us on the forum is to make sure of some basics. These are:
1. Find out whether or not your modem is operating under correct tolerances
2. Look to see where on the route problems might lie.
1/
Log onto the modem at 192.168.100.1 with UN/PW = root/root

That sounds like a DIY extension socket to me. You can't get ADSL internet from NTL (now known as Virgin Media), so assuming that's an NTL/Virgin phone socket, connected via their cable network, the ADSL outlet on the extension faceplate simply won't do anything.

Downstream Receive Power Level : -8.3 dBmV - This is quite low.
Downstream SNR : 38.6 dB - This is quite high.
Do you have any filters on the back of the modem?

VM deal with emails in the same manner as they manage call backs so you have wasted your time.

You do know this isn't a VM run forum, right?
If you're paying Virgin 60 quid a month I assume you have a VM telephone line, you do know you can call technical support on 150?
If you could repeat the pingtest.net from a server a bit closer than Atlanta, Georgia that might be good for getting a better idea of the issues. I am sure there are problems there but that doesn't show it.
Perhaps...

No you can get the discount just ring up and complain, make sure you get through to sales, you wont get the cheap first 3 month but you should get the discount on the broadband. I complained and now have the 50Mbit broadband and the telephone line for a total of £39 ... you do have to have the virgin phone line to benefit from the cheap broadband

hi guys wondering if someone who knows about these things could tell me if I have a problem, or whether the 50MB service is just not suited to online gaming.
I do a lot of racing on iracing and since having 50MB installed have had loads of problems, disconnections, warping, lots of lag etc. which isn't making me too popular with my fellow wannabe racers.
Here are my up and downstream ...

Flaky Ambit modem?
I've been on the 10MB L service for a while and it's been stable, but over the past few weeks I started to lose the signal on the modem (RDY Light flashing). First once a week, then every few days, now every day - usually in the evenings.
A power cycle of the modem a few times brings it back. The levels look ...
