Extreme Magnification of Screen
Published (2009-11-20 04:04:00)
I wasn't aware that different user accounts could have different screen resolutions. Are you sure there is no "Ease of Access" tool in use, like a Magnifier, (Control Panel > Ease of Access Center). If it is the screen resolution, then there may be a way to move that display window around. Can you see the icon in the Taskbar for Display Settings? If so, right click that icon and select Move". Do not move your mouse,...

You are right. That program is for MS Genuine detection. I thought that I downloaded a Windows Installer patch or so but didn't. When I try to install SP3 in WordPerfect 11 (on Vista) I get the message: "Program upgrade patch could not be installed by windows installer because I may have the wrong program or patch.." However, the upgrades are the correct ones (for XP - Corel no longer supports WP11 for vista but I read that the...

Published (2009-11-21 04:43:00)
Dear Bob Thanks for your prompt reply. Immediately after reading your reply and hints, I guessed it most probably was graphic cable problem, as such I opened up the laptop but did nothing to the graphic cable or wire instead just simply spray some electronic cleaning-agent on the related connectors, hopefully it work. True enough, Windows appeared after boot up, so I kept trying on and off a few times and it works fine. Anyway, this took me 5...

ok, i have been to the task manager, but i have no idea what are vital programs, and what is junk. i really screwed up a computer a long time ago, by removing programs i didn't think i needed. so i am not going to make that mistake again.

Registry cleaner for Vista
Published (2009-11-23 08:55:00)
Registry Mechanics will not let me use the existing key that they sent me although it was pasted in directly. When I tried instead to buy another copy they only offer a 3 unit bundle. Now it turns out that it will not work with a 64 bit system. This may be the end of my working relationship with pc tools.

In a VM (virtual memory) OS (operating system) the best sign of a good design is that there is ZERO FREE MEMORY. This means the OS has put every scrap of ram to work since it's the fastest access to anything. Free ram is wasted ram. Now back to the problem. It's not about free ram. And task manager does list programs and what they consume. Bob

Try the drivers in this order. 1. The OS. 2. The motherboard chipset package. 3. The audio driver. 4. The video driver. 5. The ethernet and if wifi, the wifi drivers. If that fails, get with it's maker for an install plan. Also, what Vista is this? Just last week someone tried to re-use their Gateway OS on another machine. They learned something new. Bob

Over in the Laptop Troubleshooting are disassembly notes and more. Your post is all about "repair." How laptops are repaired is painfully simple and expensive. You use your repair experience and decide which part to swap (replace) first. Then you do that. In your case the clue of the LCD has to be at the right angle tells me it needs a new cable from one board to another. There ...
