Help for Windows2000Pro setup...

On Windows 2000 we can not "do it the manual way via the control panel networking sections" because there is no controls there for the wifi card. Fast forward to Windows XP and MSFT added the Wireless Zero Configuration which you may have seen. But this never appears in Windows 2000 so we are dependent on the vendor's utility. The network id wizard only applies to the ethernet connections in 2000 so that's just a false...

Improving WIFI signal strength?
Published (2009-11-22 02:41:00)
Where is the router or AP that you put the adapter outside of your house? While it's possible that you might get some signal reflection from metal objects such as gutters, they can also interfere with a signal. Antenna length is based on math and depends on the wavelength of the signal you're trying to pick up. As such, adding more wire to make the antenna longer won't always increase the signal.

Sharing Printer On Home Network
Published (2009-11-17 16:22:00)
I have just setup a wireless home network with a router (Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router) and it's hooked up to my desktop through my DSL modem. Now there will be 2 laptops on the network and I want all 3 computers to share my wired printer. My desktop has Vista Home Basic and my laptop has Windows 7 Ultimate, and then the 2nd laptop will have Vista Home Premium I believe. My question is how do I set it up so that all three of these...

PCI vs USB vs other
Published (2009-11-17 00:14:00)
My own experience has been that PCI is better. Possibly the card can use more power because it's installed straight into the motherboard -- and cooling issues don't usually arise. Can have traditional PCI installation annoyances. Many instances of USB wireless adapters overheating -- and the wireless seems less effective. Usually foolproof to install.

I'm running Windows XP Professional on a Dell Latitude D600 and the other computer on my home network is a Toshiba Satelite U-405 running Windows Vista. My router is a Netgear wireless-G. I've just recently networked the computers to share files and I am able to access files like word documents from both directions on the network without problems, but any time I try to access a .jpg or video file on either computer, the network...

If that was true, you would not be seeking help. So let's call that false. There has been a change. The most common instance I see this on is when Norton expires. Bob

http://www.tinyos.net/ notes mailing lists of people that are involved with this. That is while I find your problem interesting I'm currently on another project and won't be able to look into it. So get on the Tinyos mailing list so you get the right exposure. Bob

Just one thing I didn't see was what you changed from stock. I never touch the Group Key Renewal: 3600 seconds and some hide the SSID which will cause disconnections. Be sure there is no P2P or torrents running. Bob
